poorv bngal ke barishal zile ka ek ansh kabhi chandradvip nam se prasiddh tha. chandr dvip ke ek ansh bakala men roop-sanatan ke pita kumaradev ki attalika thi. roop-sanatan aur unake chhote-bhaee vallabh jab husainashah ke daravar men sarvochch padon par niyukt the, tab is attalika ka gaurav kisi rajaprasad se kam n than dhan-dhany, rajaishvary, bandhu-bandhavon, das-dasiyon se paripoorn aur taroo-lataon, bag-bagichon se pariveshtit is attalika ki shobha dekhate hi banati thi.

par jab se tinon bhaee snsar chhodakar chale gaye mano isane bhi vairagy le liyan isaki chamak-damak aur chahal-pahal atit ke garbh men vilin ho gayi. pur-parijanon aur das-dasiyon ka kalagunjan bhi ab isamen sunaee nahin padata. sunaee padata hai nitant niravata ke vatavaran men ek varshiy-si vidhava ka mand svar, jo ratri ke andhakar men dipashikha ke nikat baithi puran ka path karati hai aur usake shishu ka kalaknth, jo usase satakar baitha bade dhyan se puran ki kahaniyan sunata hai aur bich-bich men uchak-uchak kar vispharit netron se usaki or dekhate hue rahasyamay prashn karata hai.

jiv ke janm kal ka anuman bhaktiratnakar ki nimn pnktiyon ke adhar par lagaya jata hai-

shri jivadi sngopane prabhure dekhil.

vidyarthi jivan aur vairagy

jiv pathashala jane lage. alpakal men hi unhonne vyakaran, alnkar, kavyadi par poora adhikar prapt kar liya-

gaur sundar ne premavisht ho nityanand prabhu ke charanon men unhen dal diya. nityanand ne ashirvad dete hue kaha-"mere prabhu gaurasundar men tumhari rati hoh. ve tumhare jivan sarvasv hon."

"shighr braje rakah prayan tomar vnshe prabhu diyachhen seee sthan."[11]

arthath tumhare vnsh ko prabhu ne vrindavan ki seva ka adhikar saupa hai. isalie tum vrindavan jao. vahi tumhara prakrit karyakshetr hai. tumhare pitrivy roop-sanatan mahaprabhu ke adesh se vahan rahakar bhakti dharm ka prachar kar rahe hai. tum jakar unaki sahayata karo. unake pashchath tumhen hi mahaprabhu dvara pracharit vaishnav dharm ke prachar ka gurutar bhar samhalana hai, aur taiyar karani hai usaki darshanik bhitti. par is kary ke lie ved vedant ka adhyayan karana avashyak hai. isalie vrindavan jane se poorv kuchh din kashi men rahakar madhusoodan vachaspati se vedant ki shiksha grahan karo.

kashi men vedant ka path samapt karane ke pashchath ve vrindavan chale gaye. anuman kiya jata hai ki vedant padhane ke lie ve kashi men kam se kam do varsh rahe honge. vrindavan men us samay svarnim yug tha. bhakti ki gnga avadhagati se umad-ghumadakar vah rahi thi. unake pitrivy nav-sthapit krishn-bhakti ke samrajy par shasan kar rahe the. krishn ke shrivigrahon ki sthapana,krishn-bhakti-shastron ke nirman aur krishn-lila sambandhi sthaliyon ke avishkar ka kary tivr gati se chal raha tha. raghunathabhatt gosvami, prabodhanand sarasvati, gopalabhatt gosvami, raghunathadas gosvami, kashishvar aur krishnadas kaviraj adi pradhan-pradhan chaitany mahaprabhu ke parikar vrindavan pahunch chuke the aur vibhinn prakar se roop sanatan ke prachar-kary men unaka hath bata rahe the.

jiv gosvami aur vallabh bhatt

unhonne pishachi' shabd shlok se nikal kar is prakar usaka snshodhan karane ki bat kahi-

"vyapnoti hridayn yavadbhukti-mukti sprihagrah"

roop gosvami ne unake prati shraddha aur apane dainy ke karan snshodhan saharsh svikar kar liya. jiv ko unaka snshodhan nahin jncha. unhen ek navagat vyakti ka gurudev jaise mahapandit aur shastrgy ki rachana ka snshodhan karane ka sahas bhi panditon ke shishtachar ke pratikool laga. krodhagni unake bhitar sulagane lagi. par gurudev us snshodhan ko svikar kar chuke the, isalie ve unake samane kuchh n kah sake. unake paroksh men unase tark dvara nipat lene ka nishchay kar chupachap baithe rahe. ve kya janate the ki jinhonne snshodhan sujhaya hai ve koee sadharan vyakti nahin, ek digvijayi pandit hain.

jiv ne vinamratapoorvak kaha-" achary! mukti ko pishachi kahana anuchit ho sakata hai. par us shlok men mukti ko pishachi kaha hi kab gaya hai? pishachi kaha gaya hai mukti ki spriha ko, jo yatharth hai. spriha ya vasana chahe jaisi ho, usaka bhakt ke hriday men koee sthan nahin. yadi vah bhakt ke hriday men pravesh kar jati hai, to usake bhaktiras ka shoshan kar leti hai aur use usi prakar ashant banaye rahati hai, jis prakar pishachi kisi manushy ke bhitar pravesh kar use ashant banaye rakhati hai. shant to keval krishn bhakt hai, jo krishn seva ke atirikt aur kuchh nahin chahate. bhukti-mukti kami jitane bhi hain sab pishachi-grast vyakti ki tarah hi ashant hain. shlok men pishachi shabd ka prayog kiye bina bhi kam to chal sakata tha, par usake bagair shlok ka bhav prabhavashali dhng se spasht n hota. isalie 'pishachi' shabd ka us men rahana hi thik hai. ap.....

jiv avesh men yah sab kahe ja rahe the. par acharyapad ka dhyan jama hua tha unake pahale vaky par hi. ve usake paripeksh men shlok ko phir se parakhate hue man hi man kah rahe the-"navayuvak thik hi to kah raha hai. shlok men pishachi mukti ki spriha ko kaha gaya hai, n ki mukti ko. mera man mukti ke prasng matr men 'pishachi' shabd ke prayog se itana udvign ho gaya tha ki 'spriha' ki or dhyan hi nahin gaya. jiv ki bat katate hue ve bole-"tum thik kahate ho. shlok men 'pishachi' mukti ki vasana ko hi kaha gaya hai. bhakton ke lie mukti ki vasana pishachi ke hi saman hai."

pratibhadhar tarun pandit ki sookshm drishti ki man hi man sarahana kahate hue unhonne jamuna snan kiya. snan ke pashchath phir gaye roop gosvami kuti par. ullasit ho unase poochha-"vah jo alpavayask pandit apake pas baithe the, ve kaun the? unaka parichay prapt karane ke uddeshy se hi apake pas lautakar aya hoon-

"alap-vayas je chhilen toma-pashe. tanr parichay hetu ainoo ullase॥"[15]

roop gosvami ne kaha-"vah mera shishy aur bhatija hai. abhi kuchh hi din hue desh se aya hai."

"bada pratibhashali aur honahar hai vaha" unhonne shlok ke snshodhan ke karan usake rosh ka sab vrittant kah sunaya.

ant men kaha-"usaka dosh bilkul nahin tha bhool meri hi thi. mera dhyan 'pishachi' shabd men itana ulajh gaya tha ki 'spriha' ka dhyan hi n aya. ab mera anurodh hai ki ap shlok ko usi prakar rahane den. usamen koee parivartan n karen.

roop gosvami ki tadana

ballabh bhatt chale gaye. roop gosvami ne man men ek abhootapoorv alodan chhod gaye. jaise hi jiv jamuna-snan se lautakar aye, unhonne unaki kadi bhartsana karate hue kaha-

"more kripa kari bhatt aila mor pashe.

mor hit lagi granth shudhiv kahila॥

e ati alap vaky sahite narila.

tahe poorv deshe shighr karah gaman.

man sthir hile asiba vrindavan॥[16]

-bhattaji ne badi kripa ki jo mere pas aye aur mere hit ke lie mere granth men snshodhan karane ko kaha. tum se unaki itani bat bhi sahan n huee. isalie tum yahan rahane yogy nahin. shighr chale jao yahan se. yahan ana jab tumhara man sthir ho jay."

'prem vilas' men is visphotak sthiti ka is prakar varnan hai-

"roop gosvami ne jiv ko bulakar kaha-"are moodh! too vairagyavesh ke yogy nahin. toone aparipakv avastha men hi vairagy dharan kar liya. tujhe krodh aya. krodh ke oopar krodh n aya? ja, yahan se vapas chala ja. main tera mukh bhi nahin dekhana chahata."[17]

jiv navamastak ho chupachap sunate rahe. apane aparadh ke gurutv ka bodh unhen hone laga-"sachamuch krodh ka tyag kiye bina sarvatyagi vairagi hona aur shri krishn ke charanon men poorn atmasamarpan hona sambhav nahin."

shok aur anutap ki agni unake antar men dhoon-dhoonkar jalane lagi. guru agya shirodhary kar krandan karate karate unhen pranam kar ve vahan se chal diye.

nirjan men krichchhh sadhana

jiv vrindavan se bahut door nirjan van prant men ek parnakuti nirman kar usamen rahane lage. arambh kiya kathor vairagyapoorn krichchhh sadhana ka jap-dhyanamay jivan. snkalp kiya ki jab tak gurudev ke manobhav ke anukool apane jivan men amool parivartan n kar lenge, tab tak us nirjan kuti ko chhod lokalay men pravesh n karenge. ve bhiksha ke lie bhi n jate door gram se akar yadi koee kuchh bhiksha de jata to use le lete. nahin to kee kee din tak upavasi rahate ya jamuna jal pikar hi rah jate. kabhi bhiksha men prapt gehoon ka choorn kar use pani men milakar pi jate-

sanatan gosvami ne avasar pakar turant kaha-"main sab janata hoon. use main dekh kar aya hoon. anahar, anidra, upavas aur kathor tapasya ke karan usaka sharir itana jarjar ho gaya hai ki usaki or dekha bhi nahin jata. bas pran kisi prakar jane se rook rahe hain. tumane ajanm mahaprabhu ke jive daya name ruchi' ke siddhant ka palan kiya hai. kya apane hi jiv ko apani daya se vnchit rakhoge?"

12/13 varsh vad vrindavan ke akash par chha gayi durdaiv ki kalima. sanatan gosvami nityalila men pravesh kar gaye. raghunathabhatt aur roop gosvami ne shighr anugaman kiya. kashi ke bharat vikhyat snnyasi prakashanand sarasvati, jo mahaprabhu ki kripa labh karane ke pashchath prabodhanand sarasvati ke nam se vrindavan men vas kar rahe the, pahale hi antardhan ho chuke the. mahaprabhu ke pradhan parikaron men jo bach rahe unamen jiv ko chhod aur sab-lokanath gosvami, gopalabhatt gosvami, raghunathadas gosvami aur chaitanyacharitamrit ke rachayita krishnadas kaviraj adi bahut vriddh ho jane ke karan lokantar yatra ki pratiksha kar rahe the.

jiv aur akabar badashah

graus ne likha hai ki akabar badashah ne gaudiy gosvamiyon se akrisht ho sanh 1573 men vrindavan men unase bhent ki.[22] sanatan gosvami ke charitr (pri0 103) men hamane graus ke lekhako udghrit kiya hai. kuchh logon ka mat hai ki akabar badashah ki bhent sanatan gosvami se huee[23] kuchh ka mat hai ki unaki bhent jiv gosvami se huee.[24] ham kah chuke hai ki sanatan gosvami se akabar badashah ki bhent ka hona sambhav nahin tha, kyonki unaka antardhan ho chuka tha 1573 se bahut pahale hi. 1573 se poorv roop aur raghunath bhatt ka bhi antardhan ho chuka tha. us samay gaudiy gosvamiyon men vrindavan vartaman the-lokanath, bhoogarbh, jiv aur krishnadas kaviraj adi . akabar ko inhin ka akarshan ho sakata tha. par jiv gosvami ka us samay vrajamandal ke adhinayak ke roop men khyati phail chuki thi. isalie gosvamiyon ke pratinidhi-svaroop shrijiv se hi unaki bhent ki bat yatharth jan padati hai.

jiv gosvami ke prati akabar ki shraddha ka praman vrindavan shodh snsthan men surakshit vah pharaman bhi hai, jisake dvara unhonne jiv gosvami nam govindadev ki seva ke lie 130 bigha zamin bhent ki thi. akabar badashah ke jiv gosvami ke prati adarabhav aur audaryapoorn vyavahar ke karan hi aj bhi vrindavan men jitani bhoo sampatti govindedev ki hai utani aur kisi thakur ki nahin hai. govindadev vrindavan ke raja kahalate hain.

jiv aur mirabaee

jiv gosvami ke sath mirabaee ke sakshath ki katha prasiddh hai. priyadas ne bhaktamal ki tika men isaka ullekh is prakar kiya hai-

vrindavan aee, jiv gusaeeji se mili jhili,

tiya mukh dekhive pan lai chhutayau hai.

mirabaee aee jiv gosvami ke darshan karane. jiv gosvami ke kisi shishy ne unase kaha-"ve stri ka mukh nahin dekhate."

mirabaee ne uttar diya-"main to janati thi ki vrindavan men giridhar lala hi ekamatr purush hai, aur sab stri hain. main nahin janati thi ki yahan jiv gosvami bhi ek purush hai, jo striyon ka mukh nahin dekhate."

jiv gosvami ne jab kutiya ke bhitar se hi yah suna to prasann ho bahar nikal aye aur mirabaee se mile.

jiv aur man jahnava

bhaktiratnakar men jiv ke sath shrinityanand prabhu ki patni man jahnava ke sakshatkar ka bhi ullekh hai. jahnava ka vrindavan gaman khetari utsav ke pashchath sanh 1576-77 ke as pas mana jata hai. ve jab vrindavan gayi to jiv gosvami ne unhen ghoom-ghoomakar vrajamandal ke darshan karaye. unaki agya se vrihadbhagavatamritadi roop-sanatan ke kuchh granth bhi padhakar sunaye, jinhen sun ve itana bhavavihnal ho gayin ki unhen apane apako samhalana dushkar ho gaya-

sunite gosaeer granth utkanthit man. shrijiv gosvami karailen shravan॥

vrihradagavatamritadik shravanete. hila vihval preme nare sthir haite॥[25]
