tithi pratyek mah men shukl paksh ki ashtami tithi ko 'durgashtami' manaee jati hai. mukhy durgashtami, jise 'mahashtami' kaha jata hai, ashvin mah men nau din ke sharadiy navaratr utsav ke dauran padati hai.
dharmik manyata bhagavati durga ka poojan kar navaratr ki poornahuti ki jati hai. shakti pithon men is din bahut utsav manaya jata hai. is din kanya, langura jimae jate hain.

any janakari is parv par navami ko prat: kal devi ka poojan kiya jata hain. anek pakavanon se durgaji ko bhog lagaya jata hai. chhote balak-balikaon ki pooja karake unhen poodi, halava, chane aur bhent di jati hai.

mahattv

chaitr shukl ashtami ka atyant vishisht mahattv hai. chaitr shukl pratipada ko navaratr pooja ka jo ayojan prarambh hota hai, vah aj hi ke din ya doosare din navami ko poornata prapt karata hai. aj ke din hi adishakti bhavani ka pradurbhav hua tha. bhagavati bhavani ajey shaktishalini mahanatam shakti hain aur yahi karan hai ki is ashtami ko mahashtami kaha jata hai. mahashtami ko bhagavati ke bhakt unake durga, kali, bhavani, jagadamba, davadurga adi roopon ki pooja-aradhana karate hain. pratima ko shuddh jal se snan karakar vastrabhooshanon dvara poorn shrringar kiya jata hai aur phir vidhipoorvak aradhana ki jati hai. havan ki agni jalakar dhoop, kapoor, ghi, guggul aur havan samagri ki ahutiyan di jati hain. sindoor men ek jayaphal ko lapetakar ahuti dene ka bhi vidhan hai. dhoop, dip, naivedy se devi ki pooja karane ke bad mateshvari ki jay bolate hue 101 parikramaen di jati hain. kuchh kshetron men gobar se parvati ji ki pratima banakar poojane ka vidhan bhi hai. vahan is din kumariyan tatha suhagine parvati ji ko gobar nirmit pratima ka poojan karati hain. navaratron ke pashchath isi din durga ka visarjan kiya jata hai. is parv par navami ko prat: kal devi ka poojan kiya jata hain. anek pakavanon se durgaji ko bhog lagaya jata hai. chhote balak-balikaon ki pooja karake unhen poodi, halava, chane aur bhent di jati hai.

' daityon ne kaha- 'tathastu.' aisa kahate hi mahabali daityon ka vishnuji ke hathon nash ho gaya. jisane asuron ki buddhi ko badala tha vah devi thi 'mahakali'.

mahalakshmi

ek samay mahishasur namak mahapratapi ek daity hua. usane samast rajaon ko harakar prithvi aur patal par apana adhikar jama sab lok jit lie. jab vah devataon se yuddh karane laga to devata usase yuddh men harakar bhagane lage aur bhagavan vishnu ke pas pahunche. ve us daity se bachane ke lie vishnu ji se prarthana karane lage. devataon ki stuti karane se bhagavan vishnu aur shnkar ji bahut prasann hue aur unake sharir se ek tez nikala, jisane 'mahalakshmi' ka roop dharan kar liya. unhen sab devon ne astr shastr aur alnkar die. inhen le mahalakshmi ne mahishasur daity ko yuddh men marakar devataon ka kasht door kiya.

mahasarasvati chamunda

ek samay shunbh-nishunbh namak do bahut balashali daity hue the. unhonne yuddh men manushy kya, sab devata jit lie the. jab devataon ne dekha ki ab ve yuddh men nahin jit sakate, tab ve svarg chhodakar bhagavan vishnu ki stuti karane lage. us samay bhagavan vishnu ki sharir se ek nari tez prakat huee, yahi mahasarasvati thin. mahasarasvati atynt roopavan thin. unaka roop dekhakar ve daity mohit ho ge aur unhonne sugriv nam ka doot us devi ke pas bheja. us doot ko devi ne vapas kar diya. usake nirash hokar lautane par un donon ne soch-samajhakar apane senapati dhoomraksh ko sena sahit bheja use devi ne sena sahit mar diya. phir chand-mund devi se ladane ae aur ve bhi mare ge. tatpashchath raktabij nam ka daity ladane aya, jisake rakt ki ek boond zamin par girane se ek vir paida hota tha. use bhi devi ne mar dala. ant men shunbh-nishunbh svayn chamunda se ladane ae aur devi ke hathon mare ge. sabhi devata, daityon ki mrityu ke bad bahut khush hue. is prakar devataon ko phir khoya hua svarg ka rajy mila.

yogamaya

jab kns ne vasudev-devaki ke chh: putron ka vadh kar diya aur sataven balaram ji rohini ke garbh men pravesh hokar prakat hue, tab athavan janm (avatar) krishn ka hua. usi samay gokul men yashoda ji ke garbh se yogamaya ka janm hua jo vasudev ke dvara krishn ke badale men mathura layi gee. jab kns ne kanya roopi yogamaya ko marane ke lie patakana chaha to vah hath se chhootakar akash men ud gee aur devi ka roop dharan kar liya. isi yogamaya ne krishn ke sath yogavidya aur mahavidya banakar kns, chanoor adi shaktishali asuron ka snhar karaya.

raktadantika

ek bar jab prithvi par vaiprachit nam ke asur ka utpat badha, usane manushy hi nahin balki devataon tak ko bahut du:kh diya. prithvi aur devataon ki prarthana par us samay devi durga ne raktadantika nam se avatar liya aur asuron ka bhakshan kiya. vah devi asuron ko marakar raktapan kiya karati thi. is karan inaka nam raktadantika pada.

shakambhari

ek bar prithvi par lagatar sau varsh tak varsha n huee. tab ann-jal ke abhav men samast praja marane lagi. is karan charon or hahakar mach gaya. samast jiv bhookh se vyakul hokar marane lage. us samay samast muniyon ne milakar devi bhagavati ki upasana ki. jisase durga ji ne shakambhari nam se stri roop men avatar liya aur unaki kripa se varsha huee. is avatar men mahamaya ne jalavrishti se prithvi ko hari sag-sabji aur phalon se paripoorn kar diya. jisase prithvi ke samast jivon ko jivanadan prapt hua.

durga

ek samay durgam nam ka ek rakshas hua. usake dar se prithvi hi nahin, svarg aur patal lok ke nivasi bhi bhayabhit rahate the. aisi vipatti ke samay bhagavan ki shakti ne durg ya durgasaini ke nam se avatar liya. jisane durgam rakshas ko marakar haribhakton ki raksha ki. durgam rakshas ko marane ke karan hi inaka nam durga prasiddh ho gaya. durga ji ki pooja men durga ji ki arati aur durga chalisa ka path kiya jata hai.

bhramari

ek samay maha atyachari arun nam ke ek asur ne svarg men jakar upadrav karana shuroo kar diya. vah devataon ki patniyon ka satitv nasht karane ki kucheshta karane laga. apane satitv ki raksha ke lie dev-patniyan devi durga se prarthana karane lagin. dev patniyon ko dukhi dekh durga ne bhramari ka roop dharan karake asnkhy bhauron ke dal ke roop men pragat ho kat-katakar apane vish se us asur ko sena sahit mar giraya. isi se vah bhramari ke nam se prasiddh huee.

chandika

ek samay prithvi par chnd aur mund nam ke do rakshas paida hue. ve donon itane balavan the ki unhonne snsar men apana rajy phaila liya aur svarg ke devataon ko parajit kar vahan bhi apana adhikar jama liya. is prakar devata dukhi hokar devi ki stuti karane lage. tab devi chandika ke roop men prakat huee aur chnd-mund namak rakshason ko marakar snsar ka du:kh door kiya. unhonne devataon ka chhina gaya svarg panu: unhen de diya. is prakar charon taraph sukh ka samrajy chha gaya.
