vadhool shakha

mahadev ne satyashadh shrautasootr ke apane bhashy (vaijayanti) ke prarambh (bhoomika, shlok 7–9) men vadhool ko taittiriy ki ek upashakha ke roop men uddhrit kiya gaya hai. kintu is bat ke anek praman milate hain ki vadhool taittiriy shakha se sambaddh n hokar usase alag ek svatantr shakha thi. is vishay men katipay praman adholikhit hain:–

  1. vadhool shrautasootr men anek aise mantr hain jo taittiriy snhita ya taittiriy brahman men nahin milate.
  2. vadhool shrautasootr men kuchh mantr taittiriy snhita ke mantr ke sath paryapt antar rakhate hain, jaise– devo v: savita prerayatu[1], devo v: savita prarpayatu[2], vasubhyastvaanajmi[3], vasubhyastva[4], vishvadhaya asyutarenadhamna[5], vishchadhaya asi paramen dhamna[6], rakshayaitvanaratyai[7], sphatyai tva naratyai[8] ityadi.
  3. vadhool shrautasootr men mantron ka viniyog taittiriyon se kee sthalon par bhinn hai, yatha– vadhool shrautasootr[9] men jalate angare ko hatate samay 'prithivyai moordhann ma nirdhakshi:' mantr viniyukt hai, jabaki taittiriy shakhanuyayi is kram men 'nirdagdhn raksho nirdagdha aratm:'[10] mantr ka prayog karate hain.
  4. taittiriy parampara men 'pranay tva apanay tva, vyanay tva[11]' in tin mantron ka viniyog havirdravy ke pasine men kiya jata hai, jabaki vadhool shrautasootr men yah karm char mantron– pranay tva, vyanay tva, apanay tva udanay tva[12] se kiya jata hai.
  5. taittiriy parampara men dirghamanu prasiti mayushe dhamh[13] is ek mantr ka havirdravy ko pisane ke bad donon hathon ko dekhane men viniyog hota hai, jabaki vadhool shrautasootr men dirghamanu prasitin snsavethamh[14] mantr ka viniyog chaval kanon ko pisane men tatha ayushe dhamh[15] ka donon hathon ko dekhane men viniyog hota hai.
  6. taittiriy parampara men devo v: savita hiranyapani: pratigrihnatu[16] ka viniyog pise chaval ke ate ko ekatrit karane men kiya jata hai, jabaki vadhool men devo v: savita hiranyapani: pratigrihnatvadabdhen vashchakshushaavekshesuprajastvay[17] ka viniyog bina pise avashisht chaval kanon ko dekhane men hota hai.
  7. agnyupasthan ke prakaran men vadhool shrautasootr mahachamasopasthan[18], mahasampadopasthan[19], vasyopasthan[20], sarvadopasthan[21] adi ka vidhan karata hai jo taittiriy parampara men kahin nahin milate.
  8. agnichayan ke prakaran men vadhool shrautasootr kuchh ishtikaon ke chayan ka vidhan karata hai jo taittiriy parampara men nahin milata. udaharan ke lie yonisngyk ishtakaon ka ullekh karata hai.[22]

in pramanon se yah bat pusht hoti hai ki vadhool shakha ki svatantr satta thi aur sambhavat: isaki apani snhita bhi thi jo abhi upalabdh nahin hai.

rachayita

vadhool shrautasootr ke rachayita vadhool nam ke koee achary hain athava vadhool gotr se sambaddh koee any achary yah vicharaniy hain. kaland ne vadhool ko ek gotravachak nam mana.[23] baudhayan pravarasootr men vadhool ka ullekh yask–bhrigu ke antargat ek gotr ke roop men hua hai.[24] panini bhi kartakaujapadigan men vadhool ka ullekh karate hain.[25] paravarti parampara men bhi vadhool ek gotr nam ke roop men prachalit raha. shrimadanantachary ne apane 'prapannamritamh' namak granth ki bhoomika men sv. guru shri nivasachary ke prati shraddha vyakt karate hue unake vadhoolagotri hone ka ullekh kiya hai.[26] gargy gopal yajva ne bhi apane 'shulb rahasy prakashan bhashy' men apane guru pn. rngaraj ke vadhoolagotri hone ka ullekh kiya hai.[27] aj bhi vadhoolagotri brahman dakshin men milate hain. pro. vitsal ka mat hai ki moolat: keral men panch vadhoolagotri parivar the, jo 60 elam men phaile the.[28] stal ki ganana ke anusar keral ke taittiriy namboodiri brahmanon men 10 pratishat vadhoolagotri hain jo aj apani maukhik parampara kho chuke hain.[29] yadi vadhool gotravachi nam hai to prashn yah khada hota hai ki vadhoolon men kaun shrautasootr ka rachayita hai. vadhool anvakhyan brahman[30] men ek path milata hai, jisamen vadhoolon ki shishy parampara ka ullekh hai– 'etaddh saubabhroovo vadhoolay prochyovach prinvai vayn yaskayagnyadheyam vochameti'. is path ke adhar par kaland ne yah mat vyakt kiya ki saubabhruv namak achary mool sootragranth ke rachayita the. unhonne vadhool ko isaka upadesh kiya.[31] ek doosari yukti ke adhar par kaland ne yah bhi mat[32] vyakt kiya ki vadhool ka mat ek pratishthit achary ke roop men adarapoorvak anvakhyan brahman men uddhrit kiya gaya hai, isalie ve is sootr ke rachayita nahin ho sakate. sambhavat: vadhool ke kisi shishy ne is sootragranth ka snkalan kiya ho. is snbhavana se yah bhi anuman kiya ja sakata hai ki vadhool koee charan tha, jisake antargat kee upashakhaen rahin hon. aryadas ne 'kalpagamasngrah' namak apani vadhool shrautasootr ki vyakhya men char vadhoolon ka ullekh kiya hai–

  • 'kasy punaste vidhyavashesha: chaturnan vadhoolanamiti. ke te chatvaro vadhoola:[33] kaundimagniveshyasharavanan kalpa:. tathahi ...shulb ukt vadhoolaka: savadhoolashchatvaro vihita kramaditi.'
  • is uparyukt eddharan men vadhool ke char vibhagon ka ullekh to kiya gaya hai, kintu pariganana men keval tin– kaundiny, agniveshy tatha garav (galav) ka hi ullekh hai. daau. ravi varma ne 'kalpagamasngrah' ke uparyukt uddharan ka ek path diya hai jo is prakar hai–

..... chaturnan vadhoolanamiti. ke te chatvaro vadhoola:
kaundinyagniveshyagar (l) vashankhanan kalpa:[34].

  • is uddharan men char vadhoolon men kaundiny, agniveshy, galav tatha shankh ka ullekh hai. pra. tsuji:[35] tatha vitsal[36] in charon ko vadhool ka shishy manate hain.

ab prashn yah hai ki yadi vadhoolachary is sootragranth ke rachayita nahin, to in charon men se koee rachayita hona chahie. kintu is bat ka hamen koee praman nahin milata ki in charon men se koee is sootragranth ka rachayita hai. bharatiy sootrakaron evn bhashyakaron ki parampara jab vadhool ko hi shrautasootr ka rachayita manati hai, tab us par avishvas karane ka koee karan nahin hai. baudhayan, katyayan, apastamb adi achary apane granthon men uddhrit hain, kintu un granthon ka rachayita mana jata hai. isi prakar yadi vadhool anvakhyan brahman men vadhool ka nam adar ke sath uddhrit hai to isamen koee apatti nahin ki ve shrautasootr ke rachayita hain. sath hi vadhool shrautasootr jis roop men hamen upalabdh hai usamen kahin bhi vadhool ka nam kisi prasng men uddhrit nahin hai. isalie yahi manana samuchit hai ki vadhoolachary hi vadhool shrautasootr ke rachayita hain.

vibhag evn chayanakram

vadhool shrautasootr men prapathak, anuvak, khand ya patal–vibhag men milata hai. hastalekhon men do sthanon par prashn–vibhag ka bhi ullekh milata hai.[37] kintu isake vishay men poorn samagri n milane ke karan nishchit roop se nahin kaha ja sakata. prapathak vibhag ke anusar isamen 15 prapathak hain. pratyek prapathak men anek anuvak tatha anuvadon ke anek anuvak tatha anuvakon ke antargat patal hain. pratham prapathak men 6 anuvak tatha 23 patal, dvitiy men 3 anuvak tatha 12 patal, tritiy men 6 anuvak tatha 16 patal, chaturth men 5 anuvak tatha 18 patal, pncham men 3 anuvak tatha 10 patal, shashth men 8 anuvak tatha 28 patal, saptam men 7 anuvak tatha 23 patal, ashtam men 15 anuvak tatha 51 patal, navam men 3 anuvak tatha 9 patal, dasham men 5 anuvak tatha 15 patal, ekadash men 9 anuvak tatha 27 patal, dvadash men 2 anuvak tatha 5 patal, trayodash men 4 anuvak tatha 13 patal, chaturdash men 1 anuvak tatha 5 patal, pnchadash men (anuvak nahin) 27 patal hain. is prakar kul 15 prapathakon men 67 anuvak tatha 270 patal hain. pro. vitsel ka mat hai ki vadhool shrautasootr men anupad, shulbasootr, pitrimedh sootr, paribhasha sootr tatha mantr path se sambandhit panch aur prapathak honge.[38] kintu ye upalabdh nahin hain.

prapathakon ka vibhag vivechy vishay ke adhar par hai. pray: pratyek pramukh isht ya yag ka vivechan ek–ek prapathak ke andar kiya gaya hai. keval agnishtom ka vivechan do prapathakon (7–8) men kiya gaya hai. pray: pratyek prapathak ke ant men sootr ki punaravritti prapathak–samaptidyotan ke lie ki gee hai. yatha–santishthete darshapoornamasau santishthete darshapoornamasau[39] 6 santishthete pashubandh: santishthete pashubandh:[40] ityadi. pratham prapathak se lekar ekadash prapathak tak prapathakon ke svaroop tatha akar ke vishay men koee matabhed nahin hai, kintu age ke prapathak ke vishay men matabhed hai. prapathakon ka nam bhi us prapathak men varnit mukhy bhag ke nam par pushpikaon men milata hai, yatha– 'ityagnyadheyakhy prapathak:, pashubandhakhy prapathak:' ityadi. kalpagam sngrah men prapathak ke antargat anuvadon ki snkhya di gee hai, kintu anuvakon ke antargat patalon ki snkhya tatha patalantargat sootron ki snkhya nahin di gee hai. hamane apane snskaran men patalon tatha sootron ki snkhya bhi di gee hai. anuvak–parivartan ke sath patal snkhya pun: ek se prarambh n hokar prapathak paryant kramash: chalati hai. is prakar sandarbh–nirdesh ke lie prapathak–patal sootr inhin tin ikaiyon ko pradhanata di gee hai.

shailigat vaishishty

sootrakal ki samast rachanaen ek aisi shaili men ki gee hain jinako brahman shaili ki tulana men sootrashaili ki sngya di ja sakati hai. brahmanon ka uddeshy mantron ka ygyparak vyakhyan karana, unaka vividh yagyik karmon men viniyog batana tatha snpady yagyik krityon ki utpatti evn adhidaivik, adhyatmik tatha adhibhautik mahattv ka arthavad ke roop men pratipadan karana tha. sootragranthon ka uddeshy apani shakha men prachalit yagyik karmon ka ek suvyavasthit evn nishchit kram men vivechan karana tha taki usake adhar par ygykarm ka sampadan saralata se kiya ja sake. yagyik vidhi–vidhanon ke varnan men vyakhyanatmak tatha arthavadatmak bhag bhi prapt the, kintu sootrakaron ne inako apane kshetr se alag rakha. sootratmak shaili men vidhibhag ko prastut karana unhen abhisht tha. isake lie unhonne kee paddhatiyan apanayin. sootr–sahity ki ek pramukh rachana ke roop men vadhool shrautasootr ki shaili ka vishesh mahattv hai. isaki shailigat nimn visheshataen upalabdh hain–

  1. vadhool shrautasootr men ek padatmak chhote sootr se lekar kee mantron vale bade–bade sootr milate hain; chhote sootr jaise– anupraharati[45], prashnanti[46], marjayante[47] ityadi. bade sootr yatha– vadhool shrautasootr 8.10.1, 8.19.9.8.25.17 ityadi.
  2. shrautasootr pray: vidhi matr aur mantrabhag ko ek sath dete hain. kabhi vidhimatr pahale hoti hai v mantrabhag bad men, tatha kabhi mantrabhag pahale hota hai v vidhibhag bad men.

sootragranth apani shakha ke mantr ko pratik roop men uddhrit karate hain, kabhi sampoorn roop men. vadhool shrautasootr aise sthalon par sootr ko tin bhagon men vibhakt kar prastut karata hai. sarvapratham mantr ke pratik ko deta hai, tadanantar vidhi–vibhag ko aur isake bad mantrashesh ko. mantrashesh ko pray: snkshipt roop men tatha kabhi sampoorn roop men deta hai. yatha:–

'shrrinotvagni:' samidha havn me iti chaturgrihiten garhapatyasyoddhate darbhastambe hiranyamupasy juhoti. 'shrrinvantvapo dhishanashch devi havn me svaha' iti[48] ityadi.

sampoorn

'tvamiddhi havamahe' iti brihatopatishthate. sata vajasy karav: tvan vritreshvindr satpatin narastavan kashthasvarvat:, s tvn nashchitr vajrahast dhrishnuya mah stavano adriv:. gamashvn rathyamindr sn kir satra vajn n jigyushe'[49] ityadi.

kabhi–kabhi ek hi sootr men char bhag dikhaee padate hain–

  • vidhibhag,
  • mantrapratik,
  • vidhibhag shesh,
  • mantrashesh; kabhi sampoorn mantr to kabhi snkshep, yatha–

sampoorn

tajjuhoti– 'syona prithivi no bhav' ityaudumbaryai kale darbhastambe hiranyamupasyantamahutimh. 'anrikshara niveshani yachchha n: sharm sapratha: svaha' iti[50] ityadi.

snkshep

aparen vedimatyakramy 'ahe daidhishavy' ityupatishthete yatropavekshyanh bhavati. 'udatastishthanyasy yoasmatpakatar:’ iti[51] ityadi.

yah ullekhaniy hai ki ashvalayan shrautasootr, katya. shrautasootr adi apani shakha ke mantr ko pratikaroop men tatha any shakhiy mantr ko sampoorn roop men dete hain. baudhayan shrautasootr sarvatr mantron ko sampoorn roop men prastut karata hai chahe mantr usaki apani shakha ka hi kyon n ho. vadhool shrautasootr bhi mantron ke pratik roop men ya sampoorn yap men dene ke kisi nishchit niyam ka palan nahin karata.

  1. sootragranth kisi prakaran ka prarambh pray: 'ath' ya 'athat:' se karate hain. vadhool shrautasootr isake lie 'evat:' pad ka prayog karata hai, yatha– 'agnihotramevato juhoti[52], 'havi: klriptirevat:'[53], 'varunapraghasa evat:'[54] ityadi. isi prakar ishti ke samapti–dyotan ke lie vadhool shrautasootr 'santishthate' pad ka prayog karata hai, yatha– 'santishthate poornahuti:'[55], 'santishthat eshishti:'[56] ityadi. jahan prapathak ki samapti hoti hai vahan sootr ki avritti karata hai, yatha– santishthate darshapoornamasau santishthete darshapoornamasau[57], santishthateagnishtom: santishthateagnishtom:[58] ityadi.
  2. vadhool shrautasootr pray: patal ki samapti par agale patal ke prarambhik sootr ko athava usake kuchh padon ko deta hai, yatha– 'ayn te yonirhritviy:' ityaranyoragnin samarohayate[59]– 'ayn te yonirhritviy ityaranyoragnin samarohayate yato' – rayimh iti.[60]
  3. vadhool shrautasootr se poorv die ge sampoorn patal ko athava anek sootron ko age jab uddhrit karana hota hai tab use ek ya do sootron men pataladi aur patalant pad dekar snkshep men prastut karata hai. udaharan ke lie 'sarvadopasthan' ka varnan vadhool shrautasootr[61] men sampoorn roop men kiya gaya hai. do sthanon par age use snkshipt roop men prastut kiya gaya hai– 'jyotishmantntvaagne – s kam: padyate y etenopatishthate'.[62]
  4. yagyik karmakand ke vivechan men vadhool shrautasootr ki shaili brahmanon ki tarah dikhaee padati hai. us varnan ko padhate samay lagata hai ki ham kisi brahman–granth ko padh rahe hain, yatha–

'tadh va enadagnyupasthan mayushyn lokyn putriyn pashavyamh.
ayushmanh havai loki putri pashumanh bhavati y etenopatishthate.
tasminva etasminnagnyupasthane sarvani chhandansi sarva ashish: sarve kama:.
n h va asy kinchichchhondoaparaddhn bhavati nashirn kamo y etenopatishthate'[63], ityadi.

is prakar ke varnan men vadhool shrautasootr ki shaili brahmanon ki tarah akhyan bhi deta hai, yatha–

gathunaso dakshikayanasy hasti sannayyn papau.
s h sm paryastarachankramyate yanmarya itthamavedishyamo hasti n: sannayyn patetyanvasy prayashchittimavakshya mahiti.
tadu ho vachanubudhyoddalak aruni:. alpa marma gaglana as.
etavann vidanchakar.
ygyo vai ygysy prayashchitt: sannayyavrith sannayyasyagnihotrasyeti.'[64], ityadi.

  1. vadhool shrautasootr 'iti brahmanamh', 'tasyaitadh brahmanamh', 'tadh brahmanamev' in vakyon ke sath brahman–path ko uddhrit karata hai.
  2. mantron ke viniyog, dravyon ke vidhan, desh–kal ke vidhan tatha vidhi ki itikarttavyata ke vivechan men vadhool shrautasootr sthan–sthan par 'mimansa' shabd ka prayog karata hai, yatha– agnyadheyasy mimansa[65], tasy samidheninan mimansa[66], dikshayai mimansa[67] ityadi. in sthalon par vadhool doosaron ke maton ko 'tadahu:', 'taduva ahu:', 'atho khalvahu:', 'tadenamh', 'athaikamh', 'tadh haino', 'eke', 'tannu hait dekhe' in vakyashon ke dvara prastut karate hain. doosaron ka mat uddhrit karane ke bad vadhool apana mat 'esha sthiti:' aisa kahakar pratishthit karate hain– yatha vadhool shrautasootr[68] ityadi.

bhashagat vaishishty

vadhool shrautasootr ki bhasha any sootragranthon ki apeksha prachin pratit hoti hai. brahmanon ki tarah pravachanatmak hone ke karan isaki bhasha ki paravarti brahmanon ki bhasha ke sath samanata ki ja sakati hai, vastut: isaki bhasha brahmanon aur paninikalin bhasha ki madhyavartini avastha ki dyotak hai. isaki katipay bhasha vishayak visheshataen nimnalikhit hain jo isaki prachinata ka dyotan karati hain:–

  1. nakarant pratipadik ke s. e. v. men i ka lop, yatha– charmanh (charmani), bhasmanh (bhasmani), hemanh (hemani hemante lau.).
  2. akarant pratipadik ka tri. tatha saptami ke e. v. men akarant roop, yatha– dakshina (tri. e. v.), vasanta (s. e. v. vasante) ityadi.

bhashagat in vishishtataon se vadhool shrautasootr ki bhasha ki prachinata siddh hoti hai. is par brahmanon ki bhasha ka spasht prabhav dikhaee padata hai.

krishnayajurvediy men vadhool ka sthan

vadhool shrautasootr ke atirikt krishnayajurved se sambandhit aj ath shrautasootr upalabdh hain. mahadev ke anusar taittiriy shrautasootron ka kram is prakar hai– baudhayan, bharadvaj, apastamb, hiranyakeshi, vadhool tatha vaikhanas.[76] mahadev dvara die ge is kram ke anusar vadhool ki sthiti panchave sthan par hai. arthat yah baudhayan, bharadvaj, apastamb, hiranyakeshi se arvachin tatha vaikhanas se prachin hai. kintu aisa manana samichin nahin hai. shrautasootron men baudhayan shrautasootr sabase prachin mana jata hai, kyonki usaki shaili pravachanatmak hai. han, kashikar ne vadhool shrautasootr ko bhi usaki pravachan shaili ke adhar par baudhayan shrautasootr ka samakalin mana hai.[77] anek bahirng tatha antarng pramanon se yah siddh hota hai ki vah baudhayan shrautasootr se bhi prachin hai.[78] katipay praman yahan prastut hain:–

  • baudhayan shrautasootr ne ek sthal par agnishomiy chhag pashu ke lie idhmabarhi ka vidhan kisi achary ke mat men mana hai. vahan achary ka nam n dekar 'eke' pad ka prayog kiya gaya hai– etadevedhmav barhiragnishomiyay pashave parishayitetyek ahu:.[79] vadhool shrautasootr men usi ka vidhan milata hai– 'agnishomiyasyaish pashoridhma bhavati'.[80] kaland ne is path ko– 'agnishomiyasyaiv pashoridhma barhibhavati' aisa manane ka sujhav diya hai. vadhool shrautasootr men prapt us vidhan ke adhar par yah anuman lagaya ja sakata hai ki baudhayan shrautasootr men 'eke' pad ke dvara jis kisi achary ke mat ko uddhrit kiya gaya hai, vah vadhool shrautasootr men pratipadit vadhoolon ke mat ki or snket karata hai. kaland ne yadyapi 'eke' pad ke dvara vajasaneyiyon ke mat ko uddhrit karane ki snbhavana vyakt ki hai jahan se vadhoolon ne bhi grahan kiya hoga, kintu baudhayan aur vadhool ke pathon men jo samanata dikhaee padati hai, usase pratyakshat: yahi pratit hota hai ki baudhayan ne vadhool se hi yah grahan kiya hai.[81]

  • vadhool shrautasootr[88] 'varamh' pad ka prayog karata hai jabaki baudhayan shrautasootr usake lie 'valamh' pad ka prayog karata hai.[89] 'varamh' pad 'valamh' se dhvanishastr ki drishti se prachin hai.

mahadev ke kathananusar vadhoolachary ne apane shrautasootr ka nirman keral men kiya. isi adhar par kuchh vidvan keral ko hi vadhool ka mool desh manate hain, kintu yah mat svikary nahin hai. yadyapi mahadev ne keral men isake rache jane ka ullekh kiya hai tatha aj keral men vadhoolon ki jivit parampara bhi hai, kintu yah nahin kaha ja sakata ki vadhoolon ka mool pradesh keral hai. kisi granth ke kisi pradesh–vishesh men prachalit hone se yah nahin kaha ja sakata ki us granth ka pranayan bhi vahin hua ho. nadiyon, parvaton, rajaon, janasamaj, riti–rivaj adi ke granth men ullekh kisi bhi granth ke mool desh–nirdharan men sahayak hote hain. vadhool shrautasootr men dakshin ke kisi bhi nagar, parvat, nadi, janasamaj athava riti–rivaj ka ullekh nahin milata, jabaki usamen isake uttar bharat men rache jane ke prachur praman milate hain. kuchh praman is prakar hain:–
