        ek gaanv mean ek zamiandar rahata tha. zamiandar ko apani haveli ki chhat par baith kar huqqa pine ki adat thi. sham ke samay moodhe par  baithakar jab vo huqqa pi raha hota to usaka karianda usake pair dabata rahata. zamiandar ki moochhean b di-b di thian. huqqa pite samay moochhoan par lagatar tav dete rahana zamiandar ki adat thi. usaki haveli ke samane ek vyapari seth bhi rahata tha. zamiandar ki haveli tin manzil ki thi aur seth ki do manzil ki. seth ne bhi apani haveli tin manzil ki karava li. zamiandar ke samane vali haveli ki chhat par ab seth bhi thik usi tarah baithane laga jaise zamiandar baithata tha aur usane zamiandar se bhi lambi moochhean badha lian aur moodhe par baith kar moochhoan ko tav dene laga. donoan haveliyoan ki chhat itani qarib ho gayi thi ki aram se apas mean batean ki ja sakati thian. zamiandar ne seth se kaha -
"seth! toone apani haveli ki chhat hamare barabar ooanchi kar li jo ki galat bat hai, tujhe hamari barabari nahian karani chahie, phir toone moochhean badha li aur ab too hamare samane baitha moochhoan par tav de raha hai." 
"mera makan, meri chht aur meri moochhean ... apako kya pareshani hai sarakar ?" seth ne kaha .
"achchha ! itani himmat ? agar mard ka bachcha hai to apane makan se nikalakar bahar a. maian bhi ata hooan aur apani talavar se teri gardan u data hooan." zamiandar gusse se bola.
"sarakar ap kaisi bat kar rahe haian! is tarah se gali mauhalle ki l daee kya apako shobha  deti hai? qayade ki bat to ye hai ki koee tarikh tay karake mere aur apake bich muqabala ho jae. jo jitega usaki mooanchh raheangi jo harega usaki mooanchh saf, bolie kya kahate haian ?  seth ne zamiandar se kaha . 
"bat to too thik kah raha hai seth! too hi bata kab ka rakhega mukabala." zamiandar ne kaha . 
seth ne kuchh soch kar javab diya- " dekhiye sarakar! is samay barasat ka mausam hai. gaanv mean charoan taraf kich d ho rahi hai. barasat nikalane ke bad  ki tarikh  tay kar lete haian. aj se thik tin mahine bad hamare apake bich mean mukabala hoga, jo harega usaki mooanchhean saf ho jaeangi."

"sarakar ap to b de adamian haian, mujhe to l daee ki taiyari karane mean samay lagega." seth ne kaha. "ham vyapari log haian, ham l daee l dana kya janean ? vo to mooanchhoan ko bachane ke lie l daee l dani p d rahi hai. isalie kam se kam tin mahine ka samay to mujhe chahie."
zamiandar ne bhi hami bhar li.
ab kya tha, donoan taraf se l daee ki taiyariyaan shuroo ho gayian. is gaanv to kya asapas ke gaanvoan mean bhi yah khabar phail gayi. seth ji apani chht par baithakar apane munim ko rozana ka hisab likhavate- "munim ji! banaras se do ga di lathiyaan mangaee thian vo kab tak aeangi ?... aur pachchis adamiyoan ke rukane, khane-pine ka iantazam karavaya tha, vo hua ki nahian...aur haan, munim ji, ab tak kul kitane adamiyoan ko khabar ho chuki hai?"
"seth ji, abhi tak do sau adami taiyar ho gaye haian aur as pas ke gaanvoan mean rukava diye gaye haian, asal mean unako yahaan lana to thik nahian hai na, zamiandar ko pata chal gaya to dugani taiyari karake hamean harava dega."

        zamiandar ki samajh mean a chuka tha ki seth ne koee taiyari nahian ki thi, sirf jhoothamooth ko munim ko kharcha likhavata rahata tha. do tin sal mean zamiandar ki haveli bik gee aur seth ne hi kharid li, sath hi zamiandar ko bhi apane yahaan naukari de di. seth ki moochhean phir ug aeean aur apani haveli ki chhat par baithakar vo apani moochhoan ko tav deta rahata tha aur vo zamiandar, jo ab usaka naukar ban chuka tha, use dekhata rahata tha.
