nageshvar jyotirling gujarat prant ke dvarakapuri se lagabhag 25 kilomitar ki doori par avasthit hai. yah sthan gomati dvaraka se bet dvaraka jate samay raste men hi padata hai. dvaraka se nageshvar-mandir ke lie bas,taiksi adi sadak marg ke achchhe sadhan upalabdh hote hain. relamarg men rajakot se jamanagar aur jamanagar relave se dvaraka pahuncha jata hai.

pauranik itihas

is prasiddh shivaling ki sthapana ke sambandh men itihas is prakar hai- ek dharmatma, sadachari aur shiv ji ka anany vaishy bhakt tha, jisaka nam ‘supriy’ tha. jab vah nauka (nav) par savar hokar samudr ke jalamarg se kahin ja raha tha, us samay ‘darook’ namak ek bhaynkar balashali rakshas ne us par akraman kar diya. rakshas darook ne sabhi logon sahit supriy ka apaharan kar liya aur apani puri men le jakar use bandi bana liya. choonki supriy shiv ji ka anany bhakt tha, isalie vah hamesha shiv ji ki aradhana men tanmay rahata tha. karagar men bhi usaki aradhana band nahin huee aur usane apane any sathiyon ko bhi shnkar ji ki aradhana ke prati jagarook kar diya. ve sabhi shivabhakt ban gaye. karagar men shivabhakti ka hi bol-bala ho gaya.

jab isaki soochana rakshas darook ko mili, to vah krodh men ubal utha. usane dekha ki karagar men supriy dhyan lagae baitha hai, to use dantate hue bola– ‘are vaishy! too ankhen band karake mere viruddh kaun-sa shadyantr rach raha hai?’ vah zor-zor se chillata hua dhamaka raha tha, isalie us par kuchh bhi prabhav n pada.

ghamndi rakshas darook ne apane anucharon ko adesh diya ki supriy ko mar dalo. apani hatya ke bhay se bhi supriy dara nahin aur vah bhayahari, snkatamochak bhagavan shiv ko pukarane men hi laga raha. us samay apane bhakt ki pukar par bhagavan shiv ne use karagar men hi darshan diya. karagar men ek oonche sthan par chamakile sinhasan par sthit bhagavan shiv jyotirling ke roop men use dikhaee diye. shnkaraji ne us samay supriy vaishy ka apana ek pashupatastr bhi diya aur usake bad ve antardhan (lupt) ho gaye. pashupatastr (astr) prapt karane ke bad supriy ne usak bal se samache rakshason ka snhar kar dala aur ant men vah svayn shivalok ko prapt hua. bhagavan shiv ke nirdeshanusar hi us shivaling ka nam ‘nageshvar jyotirling’ pada. ‘nageshvar jyotirling’ ke darshan karane ke bad jo manushy usaki utpatti aur mahatmy sambandhi katha ko sunata hai, vah samast papon se mukt ho jata hai tatha sampoorn bhautik aur adhyatmik sukhon ko prapt karata hai-

  • uparyukt jyotirling ke atirikt nageshvar nam se do any shivalingon ki bhi charcha granthon men prapt hoti hai. matantar se in lingon ko bhi kuchh log ‘nageshvar jyotirling kahate hain.
  • inamen se ek nageshvar jyotirling nijam haidarabad, andhr pradesh gram men avasthit hain. manamad se dronachalam tak jane vali relave par parabhani namak prasiddh steshan hai. parabhani se kuchh hi doori par poorna jnkshan hai, jahan se relamarg par ‘charendi’ namak steshan hai, jahan se lagabhag 18 kilomitar ki doori ‘audhagram’ hai. steshan se motaramarg dvara ‘audhagram’ pahuncha jata hai.
  • isi prakar uttarakhnd pradesh ke almoda janapad men ek ‘yogesh ya ‘jageshvar shivaling’ avasthit hai, jise nageshvar jyotirling’ bataya jata hai. yah sthan almoda se lagabhag 25 kilomitar uttar poorv ki or hai, jisaki doori nainital se lagabhag 100 kilomitar hai. yadyapi shiv puran ke anusar samudr ke kinare dvaraka puri ke pas sthit shivaling hi jyotirling ke roop men pramanit hota hai.

aitihasik karan

‘jageshvar shivaling ko nageshvar jyotirling kahane ya manane ke kuchh pramukh aitihasik karan is prakar hain-–

  • dvadash jyotirlingon ke path men ‘nagesh darookavane’ aisa ullekh milata hai. almoda ke samip sthit shivaling jageshvar ke nam se jana jata hai. aisi sthiti men ‘yogesh’ kis prakar nagesh ban gaye? is sandarbh men dhyan dene yogy bat yah hai ki kashmir prant ke pahadiyon tatha vibhinn maidani kshetron se anek men paundrak, dravid, kamboj, yavan, shak pallav, rad, kirat, darad, nag aur khas adi pramukh thin. mahabharat ke anusar ye sabhi jatiyan bahut parakrami tatha sabhyata-sampann thin. jab pandavon ko in logon se sngharsh karana pada tab unhen bhi gyan hua ki ye sabhi kshatriy dharm aur usake gunon se sampann hain.
  • itihas ke pannon ko dekhane se yah bhi gyat hota hai ki kumaoon ki anary jatiyon ne bhi brahman dharm men pravesh pane ka prayas kiya, kintu asaphal rahin. vasishth aur vishvamitr ke bich varsho tak chala sngharsh isi ashay ka pratik hai. shri okale sahab ne upani prasiddh pustak ‘pavitr himalay’ men likha hai ki kashmir aur himalay ke gadhaval kshetr men nag logon ki ek jati rahati hai. okale ke anusar sarp ki pooja karane ke karan hi unhen ‘nag’ kaha jata hai.
  • raee devidash jo ek prasiddh bauddh lekhak the, unaka mat hai ki purane bauddh kal men chitron aur moortiyon men manushy tatha sanp ke jude hue svaroop men nag pooja ko ankit kiya gaya hai. yah pratha aj bhi gadhaval tatha kumaoon men prachalit hai.
  • etakinshan namak vidvanh ka bhi yahi abhimat hai, jinhonne ‘himalay distriks’ namak granth likha hai, gadhaval ke adhikanshat: mandiron men aj bhi nagapooja hoti chali a rahi hai.
  • jageshvar shivamandir jahan avasthit hai, usake asapas men aj bhi verinag, dhaulenag, kaliyanag adi sthan vidyaman hain, jinamen ‘nag’ shabd us nag jati ki yad dilata hai. unake adhar par yah bat tark sngat lagati hai ki in nag-mandiron ke bich ‘nagesh’ namak koee bada mandir prachinakal se kumaoon men vidyaman hai. pauranik dharm aur bhoot-preton ki pooja ki bhi shivopasana men ganana ki gee hai.
  • adi jagadguru shnkarachary ke mat aur siddhant ke prachar se pahale kumaoon ke logon ko ‘pashupateshvar’ ka nam nahin maloom tha. in devon ki bali pooja hoti thi ya nahin, yah kahana kathin hai, kintu itihas ke prishthon se itana to nishchit hai ki kathamandoo, nepal ke ‘pashupatinath, aur kumaoon men ‘yageshvar’ ke ‘pashupateshvar’ donon vaidik kal se poojaniy devasthan hain. pavitr himalay ki sampoorn chotiyon ko tapasvi bhagavan shivamoortiyon ke roop men svikar kiya jata hai, kintu kailas parvat ko to adi kal se naisargik shiv mandir bataya gaya hai.
  • in sab baton se spasht hai ki kumaoon mandal men shivapoojan ka prachalan ati prachin hai.

ek prasiddh akhyayika ke anusar ‘yageshvar mandir’ himalay ke uttar pashchim ki or avasthit hai tatha yahan saghan devadar ka van hai. is mandir ka nirman tibbatiy aur ary shaili ka mila jula svaroop hai. jageshvar-mandir ke avalokan se pata chalata hai ki isaka nirman kam se kam 2500 varshon poorv ka hai. isake samip mrityunjay aur dindeshvar-mandir bhi utane hi purane hain. jageshvar-mandir shiv-shakti ki pratimaen aur daravajon ke dvarapalon ki moortiyan bhi ukt prakar ki atyant prachin hain. jageshvar-mandir men raja dipachand ki chandi ki moorti bhi sthapit hai.

skand puran ke manas khand aur reva khand men gadhaval tatha kumaoon ke pavitr tirtho ka varnan milata hai. chini yatri hrenasang ne bauddh dharm ki khoj men kumaoon ki yatra ki thi.

kumaoon aur kosal rajy

kumaoon kosal rajy ka hi ek bhag tha. kumaoon men vaidik tatha bauddh dharm samanantar roop se prachalit the. mall rajaon ne bhi pashupateshvar ya jageshvar ke darshan kiye the tatha jageshvar ko kuchh ganv upahar men samarpit kiye the. chand rajaon ki jageshvar ke prati atoot shrriddha thi. inaka rajy kumaoon ki pahadiyon tatha taraeebhanvar ke bich tha. devichand, kalyanachand, ratanachand, rudrachandr adi rajaon ne jageshvar-mandir ko ganv tatha bahut-sa dhan dan men diye the.

san 1740 men alimuhammad khan ne apane roohela sainikon ke sath kumaoon par akraman kiya tha. usake sainikon ne bhari tabahi machaee aur almoda tak ke mandiron ko bhrasht kar unaki moortiyon ko tod dala. un dushton ne jageshvar-mandir par bhi dhava bola tha, kintu eeshvar ichchha se ve asaphal rahe. saghan devadar ke jngal se lakhon barr nikalakar un sainikon par toot pade aur ve sabhi bhag khade hue. unamen se kuchh kumaoon nivasiyon dvara mar diye gaye, to kuchh sardi se mar gaye.

bauddhon ke samay men

bauddhon ke samay men bhagavan 'badari vishal' ki pratima ki tarah jageshvar ki dev-pratimaen bhi soory kund men kuchh dinon tak padi rahin. apane digvijay-yatra ke dauran adi jagadguru shnkarachary ne pun: moortiyon ko sthapit kiya aur jageshvar-mandir ki pooja ka dayittv dakshin bharatiy kumarasvami ko saunp diya.

is prakar prachin itihas ka avalokan karane se gyat hota hai ki, jageshvar-mandir atyant prachin kal ka hai aur nag jatiyon ke dvara is shivaling ki pooja hone ke karan ise ‘yagesh’ ya ‘nagesh’ kaha jane laga. isi ke karan ise ‘nageshvar jyotirling’ manane ke paryapt adhar mil jata hai.

shivapuran ki katha

nageshvar jyotirling ke sambandh men shri shiv puran ki katha is prakar hai–

‘darooka’ nam ki ek prasiddh rakshasi thi, jo parvati ji se varadan prapt kar ahnkar men choor rahati thi. usaka pati ‘darooka’ mahanh balashali rakshas tha. usane bahut se rakshason ko apane sath lekar samaj men atnk phailaya hua tha. vah ygy adi shubh karmon ko nasht karata hua sant-mahatmaon ka snhar karata tha. vah prasiddh dharmanashak rakshas tha. pashchim samudr ke kinare sabhi prakar ki sampadaon se bharapoor solah yojan vistar par usaka ek van tha, jisamen vah nivas karata tha.

darooka jahan bhi jati thi, vrikshon tatha vividh upakaranon se susajjit vah vanabhoomi apane vilas ke lie sath-sath le jati thi. mahadevi parvati ne us van ki dekhabhal ka dayittv darooka ko hi saunpa tha, jo unake varadan ke prabhav se usake hi pas rahata tha. usase pidit am janata ne maharshi aurv ke pas jakar apana kasht sunaya. sharanagaton ki raksha ka dharm palan karate hue maharshi aurv ne rakshason ko shap de diya. unhonne kaha ki ‘jo rakshas is prithvi par praniyon ki hinsa aur ygyon ka vinash karega, usi samay vah apane pranon se hath dho baithega. maharshi aurv dvara diye gaye shap ki soochana jab devataon ko maloom huee, tab unhonne durachari rakshason par chadhaee kar di. rakshason par bhari snkat a pada. yadi ve yuddh men devataon ko marate hain, to shap ke karan svayn mar jaenge aur yadi unhen nahin marate hain, to parajit hokar svayn bhookhon mar jaenge. us samay darooka ne rakshason ko sahara diya aur bhavani ke varadan ka prayog karate hue vah sampoorn van ko lekar samudr men ja basi. is prakar rakshason ne dharati ko chhod diya aur nirbhayatapoorvak samudr men nivas karate hue vahan bhi praniyon ko satane lage.

ek bar us samudr men manushyon se bhari bahut-sari naukaen ja rahi thin, jinhen un rakshason ne pakad liya. sabhi logon ko bediyon se bandhakar unhen karagar men band kar diya gaya. rakshas un yatriyon ko bar-bar dhamakane lage. ek ‘supriy’ namak vaishy us yatri dal ka aguva (neta) tha, jo bada hi sadachari tha. vah lalat par bhasm, gale men rudraksh ki mala dalakar bhagavan shiv ki bhakti karata tha. supriy bina shiv ji ki pooja kiye kabhi bhi bhojan nahin karata tha. usane apane bahut se sathiyon ko bhi shiv ji ka bhajan-poojan sikhala diya tha. usake sabhi sathi ‘nam: shivay’ ka jap karate the tatha shiv ji ka dhyan bhi karate the. supriy param bhakt tha, isalie use shiv ji ka darshan bhi prapt hota tha.

is vishay ki soochana jab rakshas darooka ko mili, to vah karagar men akar supriy sahit sabhi ko dhamakane laga aur marane ke lie daud pada. marane ke lie aye rakshason ko dekhakar bhayabhit supriy ne katarasvar se bhagavan shiv ko pukara, unaka chintan kiya aur vah unake nam-mantr ka jap karane laga. usane kaha- deveshvar shiv! hamari raksha karen, hamen in dusht rakshason se bachaie. dev! ap hi hamare sarvasv hain, ap hi mere jivan aur pran hain. is prakar supriy vaishy ki prarthana ko sunakar bhagavan shiv ek 'vivar'[1] arthath bil se prakat ho gaye. unake sath hi char daravajon ka ek sundar mandir prakat hua.

us mandir ke madhyabhag men (garbhagrih) men ek divy jyotirling prakashit ho raha tha tatha shiv parivar ke sabhi sadasy bhi usake sath vidyaman the. vaishy supriy ne shiv parivar sahit us jyotirling ka darshan aur poojan kiya–

supriy ke poojan se prasann bhagavan shiv ne svayn pashupatastr lekar pramukh rakshason ko, unake anucharon ko tatha unake sare snsadhanon (astr-shastr) ko nasht kar diya. lila karane ke lie svayn sharir dharan karane vale bhagavan shiv ne apane bhakt supriy adi ki raksha karane ke bad us van ko bhi yah var diya ki ‘aj se is van men brahman, kshatriy, vaishy tatha shoodr, in charon varnon ke dharmon ka palan kiya jaega. is van men shiv dharm ke pracharak shreshth rishi-muni nivas karenge aur yahan tamasik dusht rakshason ke lie koee sthan n hoga.’

rakshason par aye isi bhari snkat ko dekhakar rakshasi darooka ne dainyabhav (dinata ke sath) se devi parvati ki stuti, vinati adi ki. usaki prarthana se prasann mata parvati ne poochha– ‘batao, main tera kaun-sa priy kary karoon?’! darooka ne kaha– ‘man! ap mere kul (vnsh) ki raksha karen.’ parvati ne usake kul ki raksha ka ashvasan dete hue bhagavan shiv se kaha– ‘nath! apaki kahi huee bat is yug ke ant men saty hogi, tab tak yah tamasik srishti bhi chalati rahe, aisa mera vichar hai.’ mata parvati shiv se agrah karati hueen bolin ki ‘main bhi apake ashray men rahane vali hoon, apaki hi hoon, isalie mere dvara diye gaye vachan ko bhi ap saty (pramanit) karen. yah rakshasi darooka rakshasiyon men balishth, meri hi shakti tatha devi hai. isalie yah rakshason ke rajy ka shasan karegi. ye rakshason ki patniyan apane rakshasaputron ko paida karegi, jo mil-julakar is van men nivas karenge-aisa mera vichar hai.’

mata parvati ke ukt prakar ke agrah ko sunakar bhagavan shiv ne unase kaha– ‘priy! tum meri bhi bat suno. main bhakton ka palan tatha unaki suraksha ke lie prasannatapoorvak is van men nivas karoonga. jo manushy varnashram-dharm ka palan karate hue shraddha-bhaktipoorvak mera darshan karega, vah chakravarti raja banega. kali yug ke ant men tatha sat yug ke prarambh men mahasen ka putr virasen rajaon ka maharaj hoga. vah mera param bhakt tatha bada parakrami hoga. jab vah is van men akar mera darshan karega. usake bad vah chakravarti samrat ho jaega.’ tatpashchath badi-badi lilaen karane vale shiv-dampatti ne apas men hasy-vilas ki baten ki aur vahin par sthit ho gaye. is prakar shivabhakton ke priy jyotirling svaroop bhagavan shiv ‘nageshvar’ kahalaye aur shiva (parvati) devi bhi ‘nageshvari’ ke nam se vikhyat hueen. is prakar shiv jyotirling ke roop men prakat hue hain, jo tinon logon ki kamanaon ko poorn karane vale hain. jo koee is nageshvar mahadev ke avirbhav ki katha ko shraddha-premapoorvak sunata hai, usake samast patak nasht ho jate hain aur vah apane sampoorn abhisht phalon ko prapt kar leta hai–
