onkareshvar jyotirling ke sath hi amaleshvar jyetirling bhi hai. in donon shivalingon ki ganana ek hi jyotirling men ki gee hai. onkareshvar sthan bhi malava kshetr men hi padata hai. skand puran ke reva khand men shri onkareshvar ki mahima ka bakhan kiya gaya hai-

devasthanasamn hyetath matprasadadh bhavishyati.
annadann tap: pooja tatha pranavisarjanamh.

arthath ‘onkareshvar tirth alaukik hai. bhagavan shnkar ki kripa se yah devasthan ke saman hi hain. jo manushy is tirth men pahunchakar annadan, tap, pooja adi karata hai athava apana pranotsarg yani mrityu ko prapt hota hai, use bhagavan shiv ke lok men sthan prapt hota hai.’

arthath ‘mahan punyashali amareshvar (onkareshvar) tirth hamesha saikadon devataon tatha rishi-maharshi ka atyant pavitr tirth hai.’

mandhata parvat

narmada nadi ke do dharaon ke bntane se ek tapoo ka nirman ho gaya hai, ise shivapuri bhi kaha jata hai. narmada ki vibhakt dhara dakshin ki or jati hai. dakshin ki or bahane vali dhara hi pradhan mani jati hai, jise nav (nauka) ke dvara par kiya jata hai. narmada ke is kinare par pakke ghaton ka nirman karaya gaya hai. isi mandhata namak parvat par bhagavan onkareshvar-mahadev virajaman hain. itihas prasiddh bhagavan ke mahanh bhakt ambarish aur muchukund ke pita sooryavnshi raja mandhata ne is sthan par kathor tapasya karake bhagavan shnkar ko prasann kiya tha. ve ek mahanh tapasvi aur vishal mahaygyon ke kartta the. us mahanh purush mandhata ke nam par hi is parvat ka nam mandhata parvat ho gaya. yahan ke zyadatar mandiron ka nirman peshava rajaon dvara hi karaya gaya tha. aisa bataya jata hai ki bhagavan onkareshvar ka mandir bhi unhin peshavaon dvara hi banavaya gaya hai. is mandir men do kamaron (kakshon) ke bich se hokar jana padata hai. choonki bhitar andhera rahata hai, isalie vahan hamesha dipak jalaya jata hai.

shiv puran ki katha

is onkaratirth ke jyotirling ko shiv mahapuran men ‘parameshvar ling’ kaha gaya hai. yah parameshvar ling is tirth men kaise prakat hua athava isaki sthapana kaise huee, is sambandh men shiv puran ki katha is prakar hai- bhagavan shiv ke anek nam hain. ek bar narad rishi param shraddha aur badi lagan ke sath unaki seva karane lage. kuchh samay seva men bitane ke bad munishreshth vahan se giriraj vindhy par pahunch gaye. vindhy ne bade adar-samman ke sath unaki vidhivat pooja ki. 'main sarvagun sampann hoon, mere pas har prakar ki sampada hai, kisi vastu ki kami nahin hai'- is prakar ke bhav ko man men liye vindhyachal narad ji ke samaksh khada ho gaya. ahnkaranashak shri narad ji vindhyachal ki abhiman se bhari baten sunakar lambi sans khinchate hue chupachap khade rahe. usake bad vindhyaparvat ne poochha- 'apako mere pas kaun-si kami dikhaee di? apane kis kami ko dekhakar lambi sans khinchi?’

narad ji ne vindhyachal ko bataya ki tumhare pas sab kuchh hai, kintu meroo parvat tumase bahut ooncha hai. us parvat ke shikharon ka vibhag[3]devataon ke lokon tak pahuncha hua hai. mujhe lagata hai ki tumhare shikhar[4] ke bhag vahan tak kabhi nahin pahunch paenge. is prakar kahakar rishi narad ji ke chale jane par vindhyachal ko bahut pachhatava hua. vah du:khi hokar man hi man shok karane laga. usane nishchay kiya ki ab vah vishvanath bhagavan sadashiv ki aradhana aur tapasya karega. is prakar vichar karane ke bad vah bhagavan shnkar ji ki seva men chala gaya. jahan par sakshat onkar vidyaman hain. us sthan par pahunchakar usane prasannata aur premapoorvak shiv ki parthiv moorti (mitti ki shivaling) banaee aur chh: mahine tak lagatar usake poojan men tanmay raha.

vah shambhoo ki aradhana-pooja ke bad nirantar unake dhyan men tallin ho gaya aur apane sthan se idhar-udhar nahin hua. usaki kathor tapasya ko dekhakar parvatipati bhagavan shiv us par prasann ho gaye. unhonne vindhyachal ko apana divy svaroop prakat kar dikhaya, jisaka darshan bade - bade yogiyon ke lie bhi atyant durlabh hota hai. sadashiv bhagavan prasannatapoorvak vindhyachal se bole- ‘vindhy! main tum par bahut prasann hoon. main apane bhakton ko unaka abhisht[5] var pradan karata hoon. isalie tum var mango.’ vindhy ne kaha- ‘deveshvar mahesh! yadi ap mujh par prasann hain, to bhaktavatsal! hamare kary ki siddhi karane vali vah abhisht buddhi hamen pradan karen!’ vindhyaparvat ki yachana ko poora karate hue bhagavan shiv ne usase kaha ki- ‘parvataraj! main tumhen vah uttam var (buddhi) pradan karata hoon. tum jis prakar ka kam karana chaho, vaisa kar sakate ho. mera ashirvad tumhare sath hai.’

bhagavan shiv ne jab vindhy ko uttam var de diya, usi samay devagan tatha shuddh buddhi aur nirmal chitt vale kuchh rishigan bhi vahan a gaye. unhonne bhi bhagavan shnkar ji ki vidhivat pooja ki aur unaki stuti karane ke bad unase kaha- ‘prabho! ap hamesha ke lie yahan sthir hokar nivas karen.’ devataon ki bat se maheshvar bhagavan shiv ko badi prasannata huee. lokon ko sukh pahunchane vale parameshavar shiv ne un rishiyon tatha devataon ki bat ko prasannatapoorvak svikar kar liya.

vahan sthit ek hi onkaraling do svaroopon men vibhakt ho gaya. pranav ke antargat jo sadashiv vidyaman hue, unhen ‘onkar’ nam se jana jata hai. isi prakar parthiv moorti men jo jyoti pratishthit huee thi, vah ‘parameshvar ling’ ke nam se vikhyat huee. parameshvar ling ko hi ‘amaleshvar’ bhi kaha jata hai. is prakar bhaktajanon ko abhisht phal pradan karane vale ‘onkareshvar’ aur ‘parameshvar’ nam se shiv ke ye jyotirling jagath men prasiddh hue. us samay devataon aur rishiyon ne milakar un jyotirlingon ka poojan kiya tatha bhagavan vrishabhadhvaj ne shiv ko prasann kar anek var prapt kiye-

is prakar bhagavan shiv ke pradurbhav aur nirantar nivas se vindhyachal parvat ko ativ prasannata huee. abhisht var ki prapti se usane apane kary ki siddhi ki aur apane manasik paritap ka parityag kar diya. shiv puran ka aisa udghosh hai ki jo manushy bhagavan shnkar ka poojan kar nirantar dhyan karata hai, use dobara mata ke garbh men nahin ana padata hai arthath usaki mukti ho jati hai. is onkar men parameshvar jyotirling ka poojan sabhi prakar ka manovanchhit phal dene vala hai.

onkareshvar ling kisi manushy ke dvara gadha, tarasha ya banaya hua nahin hai, balki yah prakritik shivaling hai. isake charon or hamesha jal bhara rahata hai. pray: kisi mandir men ling ki sthapana garbh grih ke madhy men ki jati hai aur usake thik oopar shikhar hota hai, kintu yah onkareshvar ling mandir ke gumbad ke niche nahin hai. isaki ek visheshata yah bhi hai ki mandir ke oopari shikhar par bhagavan mahakaleshvar ki moorti lagi hai. kuchh logon ki manyata hai ki yah parvat hi onkararoop hai. ve log is parvat ki parikrima bhi karate hain.

prachin siddheshvar mahadev

yahan par sthit prachin siddheshvar mahadev ka mandir bhi darshaniy hai. parikrama ke antargat bahut se mandiron ke vidyaman hone ke karan bhi yah parvat onkar ke svaroop men dikhaee padata hai. onkareshvar ke mandir Omkar men bane chandr ka sthaniy Om isamen bane hue chandrabindu ka jo sthan hai, vahi sthan onkaraparvat par bane onkareshvar mandir ka hai. maloom padata hai is mandir men shiv ji ke pas hi man parvati ki bhi moorti sthapit hai. yahan par bhagavan parameshvar mahadev ko chane ki dal chadhane ki parampara hai.

dharm ke sath kupratha bhi

is onkareshvar mandir men kabhi ek bhishan parampara bhi prachalit thi, jo ab samapt kar di gee hai. is mandhata parvat par ek khadi chadhaee vali pahadi hai. isake sambandh men ek prachalan tha ki jo koee manushy is pahadi se koodakar apana pran narmada men visarjit kar deta hai, usaki tatkal mukti ho jati hai. is kupratha ke chalate bahut sare log sadyomukti (tatkal moksh) ki kamana se us pahadi par se nadi men koodakar apani jan de dete the. is pratha ko ‘bhrigupatan’ nam se jana jata tha. sati pratha ki tarah is prachalan ko bhi angreji sarakar ne pratibandhit kar diya. yah prananashak anushthan sanh 1824 ee. men hi band kara diya. tha. is onkareshvar-tirth men kartik mas (navambar) ki poornima tithi ko bhari mela lagata hai. narmada men snanakar bhagavan amaleshvar ke darshan ka bahut mahattv puranon men darshaya gaya hai. narmada nadi ke snan to kya, usake darshan matr se bhi manushy men pavitrata ati hai.

moratakka se onkareshvar jate samay narmada ke kinare agal-bagal men do chhoti-chhoti pahadiyan hain, jinako ‘vishnupuri’ aur ‘brahmapuri’ kaha jata hai. inake bich se hi kapil dhara namak nadi bahati hai, jo age chalakar narmada nadi men hi mil jati hai. yahan par pakke ghat aur anek mandir virajaman hain. aisa pratit hota hai ki ling ki jalahari ka sambandh niche narmada ke kisi chhidr (bil) se hai. isalie onkar ling par chadhayi gayi bhent-pooja ko pujari log badi savadhani se shighr hi utha lete hain. ve apane hath ko jalahari ke age lagaye rahate hain, jisase ki chadhava pani men bahakar nadi men n chala jay.

pratima ka naukavihar

pratyek somavar ko bhagavan onkareshvar ki panch mukhon vali sone ki pratima ko nav men baithakar narmada nadi men jalavihar ya naukavihar karaya jata hai. vartaman men onkareshvar-mandir ka jirnoddhar kiya gaya hai. yahan se sarakar dvara ek nahar nikali gayi hai, jo krishi-kary arthath sinchaee ke lie hai.

onkareshvar kaise pahunchen

is nahar ka nirman karane vali ek praivet kampani ne hi onkareshvar-mandir ka jirnoddhar karaya hai. usane nadi par pakka ghat tatha oopar mndir jane ke lie sidhiyan bhi banavayi hain. do taraph se nadi se ghiri yah pahadi is samay lagabhag dedh kilomitar lambi aur ek kilomitar chaudi hai. moratakka relave steshan se bas, taimpon, tanga adi ke dvara onkareshvar pahuncha jata hai. is tapoo (mandhata) ke donon or bahane vali nadi yadyapi narmada hi hai, kintu isaki doosari jaladhara ko vahan kaveri kahate hain.

mndiron ke darshan

mandhata dvip ke ant men vahi kaveri-dhara pun: narmada men hi mil jati hai. is dvip ka akar-prakar[7] pranav [8]se milata-julata hai. onkareshvar-mandir ke parisar men hi panch mukh vale ganesh ji ki moorti hai. onkareshvar-mandir ki sidhiyan chadhakar doosari mnzil men mahakaleshvar ling moorti ka darshan prapt hota hai. usaki tisari mnzil par bhagavan vaidyanatheshvar ki ling moorti vidyaman hai. is mandir ki parikrama men shri rameshvar mandir tatha gauri-somanath ke bhi darshan prapt hote hain. mandir ke samip avimukteshvar mahadev, jvaleshvar, kedareshvar mahadev, adi ke prachin mandir bhi avasthit hai.

dharmik drishti se parikrama

dharmik drishti se mandhata tapoo men onkareshvar ki ek chhoti aur ek badi do parikramaen ki jati hain. onkareshvar kshetr ki sampoorn tirthayatra tin dinon men poori ki ja sakati hai. mandhata dvip men koti tirth par snan karane ke bad koteshvar mahadev, hatakeshvar, trynbakeshvar, gayatrishvar, govindeshvar, tatha savitrishvar adi devon ke darshan kiye jate hain. tadanantar bhoorishvar, shrikalika mata aur panch mukh vale ganapati sahit nandi ka darshan karane ke bad onkareshvar-mandir mahadev ka darshan prapt hota hai. onkareshvar-mandir men shukadev ji, mandhateshvar, managaneshvar, shri dvarikadhish, narmadeshvar bhagavan, narmada devi, mahakaleshvar, bhagavan vaidyanatheshvar, siddheshvar, rameshvar, jaleshvar adi ka darshan karane ke bad vishalya-sngam tirth par vishalyeshvar ka darshan kiya jata hai.

inake atirikt andhakeshvar, jhumeshvar, navagraheshvar nam se bhi bahut se shivalingon ke darshanon ka avasar milata hai. marooti, sakshi ganesh, shri annapoorna mata tatha tulasi ji ka bhi darshan milata hai. inake atirikt bhi bahut se dev hain, jinaka darshan paidal chalakar hi prapt hota hai, unamen avimukteshvar, mahatma dariyaeenath ki gaddi, shri batukabhairav, mngaleshvar, nagachandreshvar, dattatrey tatha kale-gore bhairav ka darshan pramukh hai. vahan shriramamandir aur gupha ke bhitar dhrishneshvar ka bhi darshan prapt hota hai. itane devataon ke darshan men poora din lag jata hai.

doosare din ke darshan

doosare din onkareshvar arthath mandhata parvat ki pnchakosi parikrama karane ka vidhan hai. yahan devasthanon ki snkhya bahut hai. shri chakreshvar, godanteshvar aur khedapati hanuman ka darshan karane ke bad mallikarjun, chandreshvar, trilochaneshvar, gopeshvar ka darshan karate hain. usake bad shmashan bhoomi men pahunchakar pishachamukteshvar tatha kedareshvar ka darshan kar savitrikund aur yamalarjuneshvar ke darshan ke bad kaveri ke sngam par pitaron ke lie tarpan karane ki pratha hai. vahan par shri ranachhod ji aur rinamukteshvar ka poojan kiya jata hai. raja muchukund ke qile se age hidimba sngamatirth milata hai. vahan jate samay raste men gauri-somanath ki vishal lingamoorti ka darshan milata hai, jinhen ‘mama-bhanja’ kaha jata hai. yah tin mnzil ka bhavy mandir hai, jisaki pratyek mnzil men shivaling sthapit hai. yahan par shri nandi, shri ganesh tatha shri hanuman ji ki pratimaen bhi vidyaman hain. is mandir se jab age badhate hain, to annapoorna, ashtabhuja, mahishasuramardini, sita-rasoee tatha shri anandabhairav ke darshan hote hain.

muchukund qile ke bahar arjun aur bhim ki moortiyan lagi hain. usase niche ane par virakhala par bhimashnkar ka darshan tatha kuchh aur niche utarane par shri kalabhairav ke darshan hote hain. kaveri sngam par joone kotitirth tatha sooryakund avasthit hai. kaveri ke us par chaubis avatar, pashupatinath, gayashila, erndi sngamatirth, patrishvar tatha gadadhar bhagavan ke mandir hain. yahan par pindadan tatha pitaron ka shraddh kiya jata hai. rajamahal men shriram ka darshan kar, usake bad onkareshvar ka darshan karane se parikrama poori ho jati hai.

vishnupuri aur brahmapuri

mandhata dvip se age narmada ko par karake 'vishnupuri' aur 'brahmapuri' sthit hai. vishnupuri ke pas gomukh hai, jahan se sarvada jal girata rahata hai. ise 'kapila-sngam tirth' kaha jata hai. gomukh se nikalane vali jaladhara gokarn aur mahabaleshvar ke lingon par girati rahati hai. ise 'kapiladhara' kaha jata hai, jisaka jal trishoolabhed kund se ata hai. us sthan se indreshvar aur vyaseshvar ke darshan hetu jaya jata hai, usake bad amaleshvar ke darshan ki parampara hai. amaleshvar-mandir ka nirman ahalyabaee ne karavaya tha. ise bhi jyotirling hi kahate hain. yahan par poorv gayakavad rajy ki or se bahut se brahman niyukt the, jo parthiv ling ki pooja karate rahate hain. parthiv-poojan ki prakiya aj bhi chal rahi hai. amaleshvar-mandir ki pradakshina men vriddhakaleshvar, baneshvar, mukteshvar, kardameshvar tatha tilabhandeshvar mahadev ke mandir virajaman hain. amaleshvar ke atirikt bahut se ashram aur akhadon men anek devi-devataon ke mandir sthapit hain. unamen nirnjani akhade men svami kartik ka mandir, aghori nale par aghoreshvar ganapati bhagavan ka mandir, vishnupuri men vishnu ke atirikt kapil ji, varun, varuneshvar, nilakantheshvar, kardameshvar adi ke darshan prapt hote hain. markandey ashram men markandeyashila tatha markandeshvar ka darshan kiya jata hai.

chaubis avatar aur pashupatinath

onkareshvar se lagabhag dedh kilomitar door jahan se narmada ki ek dhara kaveri ke roop men vibhakt hoti hai, vahan par chaubis avatar aur pashupatinath ka mandir hai. yahan par dharati par leti huee ek ravan ki moorti hai. is mandir se dedh kilomitar age chalakar kuber ji ka sthan hai, jahan kaveri pun: narmada men mil jati hai, vahin sngam tat par bhagavan shiv ka prachin mandir haih. aisi lok manyata hai ki yahan par kuber ne kathor tapasya ki thi. unaki tapasya ke karan hi is mandir ko kubereshvar-mandir kaha jata hai.

sita vatika

vahan se age chyavan muni ka ashram hai aur age saptamatrikaon ke mandir hain, jinhen satamatri kaha jata hai. satamatri men varahi, chamunda, brahmani, vaishnavi, indrani, kaumari tatha maheshvari in saptamatrikaon ke mandir bane hue hain. aisi janashruti hai ki narmada ke uttar tat se lagabhag panch kilomitar ki doori par maharshi valmiki ka ashram tha. janakanandini janaki isi ashram men nivas karati thin. vartaman men is sthan ko sita vatika kaha jata hai, jo satamatri se sat mil door hai. sita vatika namak sthan men sitakund, ramakund tatha lakshman kund hain. yahan chausath yoginiyon aur bavan bhairavon ki vishal moortiyan sthapit hain. is kshetr ke asapas bhi anek dharmik sthal hain.

onkareshvar-tirth narmada nadi ke kinare vidyaman hai. ujjain se khandava jane vale relamarg par ‘moratakka’ namak relave steshan hai, jahan se lagabhag barah kilomitar ki doori par ‘onkareshvar-tirth’ hai.
