isi mahakaleshvar ki nagari men maharaja vikramadity ne chaubis khambon ka darabar-mandap banavaya tha. mngal grah ka janmasthan mngalashver bhi yahin sthit hai. itihas prasiddh bhartrihari ki gupha tatha maharshi sandipani ka ashram yahin virajaman hai. shri krishnachandr aur balaram ji ne isi sandipani ashram men vidya ka adhyayan kiya tha. isi ujjayini nagari men param pratapi maharaj vir vikramadity ki rajadhani thi. jab sinh rashi par brihaspati grah ka agaman hota hai, to yahan pratyek barah varsh par mahakumbh ka snan aur mela lagata hai.

samast dehadhariyon ko moksh pradan karane vali ek prasiddh aur atyant avanti nam ki nagari hai. lok pavani param punyadayini aur kalyan-karini vah nagari bhagavan shiv ji ko atyant priy hai. usi pavitr puri men shubh karmaparayan tatha sada vedon ke svadhyay men lage rahane vale ek uttam brahman raha karate the. ve apane ghar men agni ki sthapana kar pratidin agnihotr karate the aur vaidik karmon ke anushthan men lage rahate the. bhagavan shnkar ke bhakt ve brahman shiv ji ki archana-vandana men tatpar raha karate the. ve pratidin parthiv ling ka nirman kar shastr vidhi se usaki pooja karate the. hamesha uttam gyan ko prapt karane men tatpar us brahman devata ka nam ‘vedapriy’ tha. vedapriy svayn hi shiv ji ke anany bhakt the, jisake snskar ke phalasvaroop unake shiv pooja-parayan hi char putr hue. ve tejasvi tatha mata-pita ke sadgunon ke anuroop the. un charon putron ke nam 'devapriy', 'priyamedha', 'snskrit' aur 'suvrit' the.

sena sahit dooshan dhyan magn un brahmanon ke pas pahunch gaya. un brahmanon ko dekhate hi lalakarate hue bol utha ki inhen bandhakar mar dalo. vedapriy ke un brahman putron ne us daity ke dvara kahi gee baton par kan nahin diya aur bhagavan shiv ke dhyan men magn rahe. jab us dusht daity ne yah samajh liya ki hamare dant-dapat se kuchh bhi parinam nikalane vala nahin hai, tab usane brahmanon ko mar dalane ka nishchay kiya.

usane jyonhi un shiv bhakton ke pran lene hetu shastr uthaya, tyonhi unake dvara poojit us parthiv ling ki jagah gambhir aval ke sath ek gadadha prakat ho gaya aur tatkal us gaddhe se vikat aur bhaynkar roopadhari bhagavan shiv prakat ho gaye. dushton ka vinash karane vale tatha sajjan purushon ke kalyanakartta ve bhagavan shiv hi mahakal ke roop men is prithvi par vikhyat hue. unhonne daityon se kaha- ‘are dushton! tujh jaise hatyaron ke lie hi main ‘mahakal’ prakat hua hoon. jaldi in brahmanon ke samip se door bhag jao.

is prakar dhamakate hue mahakal bhagavan shiv ne apane hunkar matr se hi un daityon ko bhasm kar dala. dooshan ki kuchh sena ko bhi unhonne mar giraya aur kuchh svayn hi bhag khadi huee. is prakar paramatma shiv ne dooshan namak daity ka vadh kar diya. jis prakar soory ke nikalate hi andhakar chhnt jata hai, usi prakar bhagavan ashutosh shiv ko dekhate hi sabhi daity sainik palayan kar gaye. devataon ne prasannatapoorvak apani dandubhiyan bajayin aur akash se phoolon ki varsha ki. un shivabhakt brahmanon par ati prasann bhagavan shnkar ne unhen ashvast karate hue kaha ki ‘mai mahakal maheshvar tum logon par prasann hoon, tum log var mango.’

mahakaleshvar ki vani sunakar bhakti bhav se poorn un brahmanon ne hath jodakar vinamratapoorvak kaha- 'dushton ko dand dene vale mahakal! shambho! ap ham sabako is snsar-sagar se mukt kar den. he bhagavan shiv! ap am janata ke kalyan tatha unaki raksha karane ke lie yahin hamesha ke lie virajie. prabho! ap apane darshanarthi manushyon ka sada uddhar karate rahen.’

bhagavan shnkar ne un brahmanon ko sadgati pradan ki aur apane bhakton ki suraksha ke lie us gaddhe men sthit ho gaye. us gaddhe ke charon or ki lagabhag tin-tin kilomitar bhoomi ling roopi bhagavan shiv ki sthali ban gee. aise bhagavan shiv is prithvi par mahakaleshvar ke nam se prasiddh hue.

mahakaleshvar jyotirling ka darshan karane se svapn men bhi kisi prakar ka duahkh athava snkat nahin ata hai. jo koee bhi manushy sachche man se mahakaleshvar ling ki upasana karata hai, usaki sari manokamanaen poorn ho jati hain aur vah paralok men mokshapad ko prapt karata hai-

ujjayini nagari men mahanh shivabhakt tatha jitendriy chandrasen namak ek raja the. unhonne shastron ka gambhir adhyayan kar unake rahasyon ka gyan prapt kiya tha. unake sadacharan se prabhavit hokar shivaji ke parshadon (ganon) men agrani (mukhy) manibhadr ji raja chandrasen ke mitr ban gaye. manibhadr ji ne ek bar raja par atishay prasann hokar raja chandrasen ko chintamani namak ek mahamani pradan ki. vah mahamani kaustubh mani aur soory ke saman dedipyaman (chamakadar) thi. vah maha mani dekhane, sunane tatha dhyan karane par bhi, vah manushyon ko nishchit hi mngal pradan karati thi.

raja chanadrasen ke gale men amooly chintamani shobha pa rahi hai, yah janakar sabhi rajaon men us mani ke prati lobh badh gaya. chintamani ke lobh se sabhi raja kshubhit hone lage. un rajaon ne apani chaturngini sena taiyar ki aur us chintamani ke lobh men vahan a dhamake. chandrasen ke viruddh ve sabhi raja ek sath milakar ekatrit hue the aur unake sath bhari sainyabal bhi tha. un sabhi rajaon ne apas men paramarsh karake rananiti taiyar ki aur raja chandrasen par akraman kar diya. sainikon sahit un rajaon ne charon or se ujjayini ke charon dvaron ko gher liya. apani puri ko charon or se sainikon dvara ghiri huee dekhakar raja chandrasen mahakaleshvar bhagavan shiv ki sharan men pahunch gaye. ve nishchhal man se dridh nishchay ke sath upavas-vrat lekar bhagavan mahakal ki aradhana men jut gaye.

un dinon ujjayini men ek vidhava gvalin rahati thi, jisako ikalauta putr tha. vah is nagari men bahut dinon se rahati thi. vah apane us panch varsh ke balak ko lekar mahakaleshvar ka darshan karane hetu gee. usane dekha ki raja chandrasen vahan badi shraddhabhakti se mahakal ki pooja kar rahe hain. raja ke shiv poojan ka mahotsav use bahut hi ashcharyamay laga. usane poojan ko niharate hue bhakti bhavapoorvak mahakal ko pranam kiya aur apane nivas sthan par laut gayi. us gvalin mata ke sath usake balak ne bhi mahakal ki pooja ka kautoohalapoorvak avalokan kiya tha. isalie ghar vapas akar usane bhi shiv ji ka poojan karane ka vichar kiya. vah ek sundar-sa patthar dhoondhakar laya aur apane nivas se kuchh hi doori par kisi any ke nivas ke pas ekant men rakh diya.

usane apane man men nishchay karake us patthar ko hi shivaling man liya. vah shuddh man se bhakti bhavapoorvak manasik roop se gandh, dhoop, dip, naivedy aur alnkar adi jutakar, unase us shivaling ki pooja ki. vah sundar-sundar patton tatha phoolon ko bar-bar poojan ke bad us balak ne bar-bar bhagavan ke charanon men mastak lagaya. balak ka chitt bhagavan ke charanon men asakt tha aur vah vihval hokar unako dandavat kar raha tha. usi samay gvalin ne bhojan ke lie apane putr ko prem se bulaya. udhar us balak ka man shiv ji ki pooja men rama hua tha, jisake karan vah bahar se besudh tha. mata dvara bar-bar bulane par bhi balak ko bhojan karane ki ichchha nahin huee aur vah bhojan karane nahin gaya tab usaki man svayn uthakar vahan a gayi.

man ne dekha ki usaka balak ek patthar ke samane ankhen band karake baitha hai. vah usaka hath pakadakar bar-bar khinchane lagi par is par bhi vah balak vahan se nahin utha, jisase usaki man ko krodh aya aur usane use khoob pita. is prakar khinchane aur marane-pitane par bhi jab vah balak vahan se nahin hata, to man ne us patthar ko uthakar door phenk diya. balak dvara us shivaling par chadhaee gee samagri ko bhi usane nasht kar diya. shiv ji ka anadar dekhakar balak ‘hay-hay’ karake ro pada. krodh men agababoola huee vah gvalin apane bete ko dant-phatakar kar punah apane ghar men chali gee. jab us balak ne dekha ki bhagavan shiv ji ki pooja ko usaki mata ne nasht kar diya, tab vah bilakh-bilakh kar rone laga. dev! dev! mahadev! aisa pukarata hua vah sahasa behosh hokar prithvi par gir pada. usaki ankhon se ansuon ki jhadi lag gee. kuchh der bad jab use chetana ayi, to usane apani band ankhen khol din.

us balak ne ankhen kholane ke bad jo drishy dekha, usase vah ashchary men pad gaya. bhagavan shiv ki kripa se us sthan par mahakal ka divy mandir khada ho gaya tha. maniyon ke chamakile khambe us mandir ki shobha badha rahe the. vahan ke bhootal par sphatik mani jad di gayi thi. tapaye gaye damakate hue svarn-shikhar us shivalay ko sushobhit kar rahe the. us mandir ke vishal dvar, mukhy dvar tatha unake kapat suvarn nirmit the. us mandir ke samane nilamani tatha hire jade bahut se chabootare bane the. us bhavy shivalay ke bhitar madhy bhag men (garbhagrih) karunavarunalay, bhootabhavan, bholanath bhagavan shiv ka ratnamay ling pratishthit hua tha.

gvalin ke us balak ne shivaling ko bade dhyanapoorvak dekha usake dvara chadhaee gee sabhi poojan-samagri us shivaling par susajjit padi huee thi. us shivaling ko tatha usapar usake hi dvara chadhaee poojan-samagri ko dekhate-dekhate vah balak uth khada hua. use man hi man ashchary to bahut hua, kintu vah paramand sagar men gote lagane laga. usake bad to usane shiv ji ki dher-sari stutiyan kin aur bar-bar apane mastak ko unake charanon men lagaya. usake bad jab sham ho gayi, to sooryast hone par vah balak shivalay se nikal kar bahar aya aur apane nivas sthal ko dekhane laga. usaka nivas devataon ke raja indr ke saman shobha pa raha tha. vahan sab kuchh shighr hi suvarnamay ho gaya tha, jisase vahan ki vichitr shobha ho gee thi. param ujjval vaibhav se sarvatr prakash ho raha tha. vah balak sab prakar ki shobhaon se sampann us ghar ke bhitar pravisht hua. usane dekha ki usaki mata ek manohar palng par so rahi hain. usake angon men bahumooly ratnon ke alnkar shobha pa rahe hain. ashchary aur prem men vihval us balak ne apani mata ko bade zor se uthaya. usaki mata bhi bhagavan shiv ki kripa prapt kar chuki thi. jab us gvalin ne uthakar dekha, to use sab kuchh apoorv 'vilakshan' sa dekhane ko mila. usake anand ka thikana n raha. usane bhavavibhor hokar apane putr ko chhati se laga liya. apane bete ke bhootesh shiv ke kripa prasad ka sampoorn varnan sunakar us gvalin ne raja chandrasen ko soochit kiya. nirantar bhagavan shiv ke bhajan-poojan men lage rahane vale raja chandrasen apana nity-niyam poora kar ratri ke samay pahunche. unhonne bhagavan shnkar ko santusht karane vale gvalin ke putr ka vah prabhav dekha. ujjayini ko charon or se gher kar yuddh ke lie khade un rajaon ne bhi guptacharon ke mukh se prat:kal us adbhut vrittant ko suna. is vilakshan ghatana ko sunakar sabhi naresh ashcharyachakit ho uthe. un rajaon ne apas men milakar pun: vichar-vimarsh kiya. paraspar batachit men unhonne kaha ki raja chandrasen mahanh shiv bhakt hai, isalie in par vijay prapt karana atyant kathin hai. ye sabhi prakar se nirbhay hokar mahakal ki nagari ujjayini ka palan-poshan karate hain. jab is nagari ka ek chhota balak bhi aisa shivabhakt hai, to raja chandrasen ka mahanh shivabhakt hona svabhavik hi hai. aise raja ke sath virodh karane par nishachay hi bhagavan shiv krodhit ho jaenge. shiv ke krodh karane par to ham sabhi nasht hi ho jaenge. isalie hamen is naresh se dushmani n karake mel-milap hi kar lena chahie, jisase bhagavan maheshvar ki kripa hamen bhi prapt hogi-

yuddh ke lie ujjayini ko ghere un rajaon ka man bhagavan shiv ke prabhav se nirmal ho gaya aur shuddh hriday se sabhi ne hathiyar dal diye. unake man se raja chandrasen ke prati bair bhav nikal gaya aur unhonne mahakaleshvar poojan kiya. usi samay param tejasvi shri hanuman vahan prakat ho gaye. unhonne gop-balak ko apane hriday se lagaya aur rajaon ki or dekhate hue kaha- ‘rajaon! tum sab log tatha any dehadharigan bhi dhyanapoorvak hamari baten sunen. main jo bat kahoonga usase tum sab logon ka kalyan hoga. unhonne bataya ki ‘shariradhariyon ke lie bhagavan shiv se badhakar any koee gati nahin hai arthat maheshvar ki kripa-prapti hi moksh ka sabase uttam sadhan hai. yah param saubhagy ka vishay hai ki is gop kumar ne shivaling ka darshan kiya aur usase prerana lekar svayn shiv ki pooja men pravritt hua. yah balak kisi bhi prakar ka laukik athava vaidik mantr nahin janata hai, kintu isane bina mantr ka prayog kiye hi apani bhakti nishtha ke dvara bhagavan shiv ki aradhana ki aur unhen prapt kar liya. yah balak ab gop vnsh ki kirti ko badhane vala tatha uttam shivabhakt ho gaya hai. bhagavan shiv ki kripa se yah is lok ke sampoorn bhogon ka upabhog karega aur ant men moksh ko prapt kar lega. isi balak ke kul men isase athavin pidhi men mahayashasvi nand utpann honge aur unake yahan hi sakshat narayan ka pradurbhav hoga. ve bhagavan narayan hi nand ke putr ke roop men prakat hokar shrikrishn ke nam se jagath men vikhyat honge. yah gop balak bhi, jis par ki bhagavan shiv ki kripa huee hai, ‘shrikar’ gop ke nam se vishesh prasiddhi prapt karega.

shiv bhakt hanuman

shiv ke hi pratinidhi vanararaj hanuman ji ne samast rajaon sahit raja chandrasen ko apani kripadrishti se dekha. usake bad ativ prasannata ke sath unhonne gop balak shrikar ko shiv ji ki upasana ke sambandh men bataya.

pooja-archana ki jo vidhi aur achar-vyavahar bhagavan shnkar ko vishesh priy hai, use bhi shri hanuman ji ne vistar se bataya. apana kary poora karane ke bad ve samast bhoopalon tatha raja chandrasen se aur gop balak shrikar se vida lekar vahin par tatkal arntadhan ho gaye. raja chandrasen ki agya prapt kar sabhi naresh bhi apani rajadhaniyon ko vapas ho gaye.

is prakar ‘mahakal’ namak yah shivaling shiv bhakton ka param ashray hai, jisaki pooja se bhakt-vatsal maheshvar shighr prasann hote hain. ye bhagavan shiv dushton ke snharak hain, isalie inaka nam ‘mahakal’ hai. ye kal arthat mrityu ko bhi jitane vale hain, isalie inhen ‘mahakaleshvar’ kaha jata hain. bhagavan shiv bhaynkar ‘hunkar’ ke sath prakat hue the, isalie bhi inaka nam ‘mahakal’ se prasiddh hua hai.

ujjain men sthit mahakal jyotirling ka bhavy mandir panch mnzil vala hai tatha kshipra nadi se kuchh doori par avasthit hai. mandir ke oopari bhag men shri onkareshvar vidyaman hain. yatayat-vyavastha aur suraksha-suvidha ki drishti se tirthayatri darshanarthiyon ko pnkti men hokar sarovar ke kinare kinare se oopar ki mnzil men jana padata hai. vahan se snkari gali ki sidhiyan utarakar mandir ki nichale satah par ana padata hai jahan bhootal par mahakaleshvar ka jyotirling sthapit hai. yah shivaling samatal bhoomi se bhi kuchh niche hai. yahan ke ramaghat aur kotitirth namak kundon men bhi snan kiya jata hai tatha pitaron ka shraddh bhi vihit hai arthat yahan pitrishraddh karane ka bhi vidhan hai. in kundon ke pas hi agastyeshvar, kodhishvar, kedareshvar tatha harasiddhi devi adi ke darshan karate hue mahakaleshvar ke darshan hetu jaya jata hai.

mahakaleshvar jyotirling ki prat:kal ki pooja men anivary roop se sava man chita ki bhasm sammilit ki jati hai. chita ki bhasm se vibhooshit mahakaleshvar ka darshan atyant punyadayi hota hai.

kaise pahunchen
