any janakari shatapath-brahman ke anusar srishti ke prarambh mean, brahm ke do roop the- moort aur amoort. inhean ‘yath’ aur ‘tyath’ arthat sath tatha asath kaha ja sakata hai-‘dvai vav brahmano roope. moortt chaivamoorttamh. sthitan ch yachch. sachch tyachch’.[2]

shatapath brahman (aangrezi: Shatapatha Brahmana) shukl yajurved ka brahmanagranth hai. brahman granthoan mean ise sarvadhik pramanik mana jata hai. shatapath brahman, shukl yajurved ke donoan shakhaoan kanv v madhyandini se sambaddh hai. yah sabhi brahman granthoan mean sarvadhik mahattvapoorn granth hai. isake rachayita yajnavalky mane jate haian. shatapath ke ant mean ullekh hai- 'shhadinyanimani shuklani yajooshi bajasaneyen yajnavalyen khyayante.' shatapath brahman mean 14 kand haian jisamean vibhinn prakar ke yajnoan ka poorn evan vistrit adhyayan milata hai. 6 se 10 kand tak ko shandily kand kahate haian. isamean gandhar, kaikay aur shalv janapadoan ki vishesh charcha ki gee hai. any kandoan mean aryavart ke madhy tatha poorvi bhag kuroo, panchal, kosal, videh, srijany adi janapadoan ka ullekh haian. shatapath brahman mean vaidik sanskrit ke sarasvat mandal se poorv ki or prasar hone ka sanket milata hai. shatapath brahman mean yajnoan ko jivan ka sabase mahattvapoorn krity bataya gaya hai. hal sambandhi anushthan ka vistrit varnan bhi isamean prapt hota hai. ashvamedh yajn ke sandarbh mean anek prachin samratoan ka ullekh hai, jisamean janak, dushyant aur janamejay ka nam mahattvapoorn hai. samast brahman-granthoan ke madhy shatapath brahman sarvadhik brihatkay hai. shuklayajurved ki donoan shakhaoan-madhyandin tatha kanv mean yah upalabdh hai. yah taittiriy brahman ke hi sadrish svaranikat hai.[3] anek vidvanoan ke vichar se yah tathy isaki prachinata ka dyotak hai.

ganaratnamahodadhi ke anusar shatapath ka yah namakaran usamean vidyaman sau adhyayoan ke adhar par hua hai-

  • 'shatanpanthano yatr shatapath: tattulyagranth:'.[4]

shridhar shastri ke bare mean bhi aisa mana hai-

  • ’shatan panthano marga namadhyaya yasy tachchhatapathamh’.[5]

yadyapi kanvashatapath-brahman mean ek sau char adhyay haian, tathapi vahaan ‘chhatrinyay’ se yah sanjna anvarth ho jati hai. kuchh vidvanoan ne yah sambhavana prakat ki hai ki shuklayajurved ki vajasaneyi-sanhita se sambaddh koee ‘shatapathi’-shakha rahi hogi, jisake adhar par is brahman ka namakaran hua hoga. is anuman ka adhar asam aur u disa pradesh ke kuchh kshetroan mean prapt ‘satpathi’ aspad hai. kintu yah mat many isalie nahian pratit hota, ki shakhaoan se sambaddh prapt samagri mean ‘shatapath’ ya ‘shatapathi’ nam ki kisi shakha ka kahian bhi ullekh nahian hai. sau-adhyay vali bat hi adhik vishvasaniy pratit hoti hai.

madhyandin shatapath-brahman mean 14 kand, sau adhyay, 438 brahman tatha 7624 kandikaean hai.

  • pratham kand mean darsh aur poornamas ishtiyoan ka pratipadan hai.
  • dvitiy kand mean agnyadhan, punaradhan, agnihotr, upasthan, pravatsyadupasthan, agatopasthan, pindapitriyajn, agrayan, dakshayan tatha chaturmasyadi yargo ki mimaansa ki gee hai.
  • tritiy kand mean dikshabhishavaparyant somayag ka varnan hai.
  • chaturth kand mean somayog ke tinoan savanoan ke antargat kiye jane vale karmoan ka, shodashisadrish somasanstha, dvadashahayag tatha satradiyagoan ka pratipadan hua hai.
  • pancham kand mean vajapey tatha rajasooy yagoan ka varnan hai.
  • chhathe kand mean ushasambharan tatha vishnukram ka vivechan hua hai.
  • satavean mean chayan yag, garhapaty chayan, agnikshetr-sanskar tatha darbhastambadi ke door karane tak ke karyoan vivechan hua hai.
  • athavean kand mean pranabhrith prabhuti ishtakaoan ki sthapanavidhi varnit hai.
  • navam kand mean shatrudriy hom, dhishny chayan, punashchiti: tatha chityupasthan ka niroopan haian.
  • dasham kand mean chiti-sampatti, chayanayag stuti, chityapakshapuchchh-vichar, chityagnivedi ka pariman, usaki sampatti, chayanakal, chityagni ke chhandoan ka avayavaroop, yajushmati aur lokamprina adi ishtakaoan ki sanstha, upanishadaroop se agni ki upasana, man ki srishti, lokadiroop se agni ki upasana, agni ki sarvatomukhata tatha sampradayapravartak rrishivansh prabhriti ka vivechan hua hai.
  • gyarahavean kand mean adhan-kal, darshapoornamas tatha dakshayanayajnoan ki avadhi, dakshayan yajn, pathikridishti, abhyuditeshti, darshapoornamasiy dravyoan ka arthavad, agnihotriy arthavad, brahmachari ke karttavy, mitravindeshti, havi:-samriddhi, chaturmasyarthavad, panch mahayajn, svadhyay-prashansa, prayashchitt, aanshu aur adabhyagrh, adhyatmavidya, pashubandh-prashansa tatha haviryag ke avashisht vidhanoan par vichar kiya gaya hai.
  • barahavean kand mean satragat diksha-kram, mahavrat, gavamayanasatr, agnihotr-prayashchitt, sautramaniyag, mritakagnihotr tatha mritakadah prabhriti vishayoan ka niroopan hai.
  • terahavean kand mean ashvamedh, tadagat prayashchitt, purushamedh, sarvamedh tatha pitrimedh ka vivaran hai.

kanvashatapath ka vibhag, chayanakram evan pratipady

kanv-shatapath ki vyavastha aur vinyas mean vipul antar hai. usamean 17 kand, 104 adhyay, 435 brahman tatha 6806 kandikaean hai.

  • pratham kand mean adhan-punaradhan, agnihotr, agrayan, pindapitriyajn, dakshayan yajn, upasthan tatha chaturmasy sanjnak yagoan ka vivechan hai.
  • dvitiy kand mean poornamas tatha darshayagoan ka pratipadan hai.
  • tritiy kand mean agnihotriy arthavad tatha darshapoornamasiy arthavad vivechit haian.
  • chaturth kand mean somayagajany diksha ka varnan haian.
  • pancham kand mean somayag, savanatrayag karm, shodashi prabhriti somasanstha, dvadashahayag, triratrahin dakshina, chatustrianshaddhom aur satradharm ka niroopan haian.
  • shashth kand mean vajapeyayag ka vivechan hai.
  • saptam kand mean rajasooy ka vivechan hai.
  • ashtam mean ukha-sambharan ka vivechan hai.
  • navam kand se lekar barahavean kand tak vibhinn chayan-yag nirupit haian.
  • terahavean kand mean adhan kal, pathikrit ishti, prayajanuyamantran, shanyuvakh, patnisanyaj, brahmachary, darshapoornamas ki shesh vidhiyoan tatha pashubandh ka niroopan hai.
  • chaudahavean kand mean diksha-kram, prishthayabhiplavadi, sautramaniyag, agnihotr-prayashchitt, mritakagnihotr adi ka varnan hua hai.
  • pandrahavean kand mean ashvamedh ka, solahavean mean saangopang pravargyakarm ka tatha satrahavean kand mean brahmavidya ka vivechan kiya gaya hai.

uparyukt vivaran se spasht hai ki donoan hi shakhaoan hi pratipady vishay-vastu saman hai. keval kram mean kuchh bhinnata hai. vishay ki ekaroopata ki drishti se madhyandin-shatapath adhik vyavasthit hai. isaka ek any vaishishty yah hai ki vajasaneyi-sanhita ke athaharavean adhyayoan ki kramabaddh vyakhya isake pratham nau adhyayoan mean mil jati hai. keval pind-pitriyajn ka varnan sanhita mean darshapoornamas ke anantar hai.

shatapath brahman ke pravachanakarta

parampara se shatapath-brahman ke rachayita vajasaney yajnavalky mane jate haian. shatapath ke ant mean ullekh hai-‘adityanimani shuklani yajooanshi vajasaneyen yajnavalkyenakhyayante.’ mahabharat aur puranoan mean unake vishay mean prapy vivaran ke anusar yajnavalky ka ashram saurashtr kshetr ke anartabhag mean kahian tha.[6] janak se sambaddh hone par mithila mean bhi unhoanne nivas kiya. shridhar sharma vare ke anusar unaka janm shravan shukl chaturdashividdha poornima ko hua tha.[7] vayu puran[8], brahmand puran[9], tatha vishnu puran[10] mean unake pita ka nam brahmarat batalaya gaya hai, jabaki bhagavat puran[11] ke anusar yajnavalky devarat ke putr the. anushruti ke anusar unake guru vaishampayan the, jinase bad mean unaka matabhed ho gaya tha. tadanantar unhoanne soory ki upasana ki, jisase unhean samagr vedoan ka jnan prapt hua. janak ne unaki isi prasiddhi se akrisht hokar unhean apane yahaan amantrit kiya.[12] ve ‘vajasani’ kahalate the-

svayan shatapath-brahman ne yajnavalky ko vajasaney batalaya hai.[13] isalie usi ko antim roop se svikar kiya jana chahie. brahmarat ya devarat ityadi unhian ke namantar ho sakate haian. ‘skand puran’ ke ‘nagarakhand’[14] ke anusar yajnavalky ki mata ka nam sunanda tha. kansarika unaki bahan thi. brihadaranyakopanishad[15] se jnat hota hai ki yajnavalky ki katyayani aur maitreyi namni do patniyaan thian. puranoan mean katyayani ka ullekh kalyani nam se bhi hai. skand puran ne hi katyayan aur paraskar ko ek manakar unhean yajnavalky ka putr batalaya hai. ullekhaniy hai ki shuklayajurved ka grihyakalp ‘paraskar grihyasootr’ ke roop mean prasiddh hai. mahabharat (shanti parv)[16] ke anusar yajnavalky ke 100 shishy the. vaishampayan ko yajnavalky ka matamah bataya gaya hai-
tat: svamatamahanamahamunervriddhadvaishampayanadyajurvedamadhitavanh.[17]

puranoan mean yajnavalky ki anek siddhiyoan aur chamatkaroan ka ullekh hai. parampara yajnavalky ko shuklayajurved-sanhita aur shatapath-brahman ke sampadan ke atirikt yajnavalky smriti, yajnavalky shiksha aur yogiyajnavalky shirshak any granthoan ke pranayan ka shrey bhi deti hai. sanbhav hai, pratham yajnavalky ke anantar, usaki parampara mean yajnavalky upadhidhari any yajnavalkyoan ne smriti prabhriti granthoan ki rachana ki ho.

yajurved sanhita

is ved ki do sanhitayean haian.

ek shukl

shukl yajurved yajnavalky ko prapt hua. use `vajasaneyi-sanhita´ bhi kahate haian. `vajasaneyi-sanhita´ ki 17 shakhayean haian. usamean 40 adhyay haian. usaka pratyek adhyay kandikaoan mean vibhakt hai, jinaki sankhya 1975 hai. isake pahale ke 25 adhyay prachin mane jate haian aur pichhe ke 15 adhyay bad ke. isamean darsh paurnamas, agnishtom, vajapey, agnihotr, chaturmasy, ashvamedh, purushamedh adi yajnoan ke varnan hai .

doosari krishna

krishna-yajurved-sanhita shukl se ki hai. use `taittiriy-sanhita´ bhi kahate haian. yajurved ke kuchh mantr rrigved ke haian to kuchh atharvaved ke haian.

shatapath brahman ka rachana-kal

maikdanel ne brahmanakal ko 800 ee. poorv se 500 ee.poo. tak mana hai, lekin pro. si. vi. vaidy aur daftari ka mat adhik grahy pratit hota hai jisamean unhoanne shatapath-brahman ka rachana-kal nyoonatam ee. poo. 24vian shatabdi svikar kiya hai.[18] yah age ee.poo. 3000 tak jata hai. unake anusar shatapath-brahman ki rachana mahabharat-yuddh ke anantar huee. mahabharat ka yuddh ee.poo. 3102 mean hua. at: yahi samay yajnavalky ka bhi mana ja sakata hai. pro. vintaranits bhi mahabharat-yuddh ki uparyukt tithi se sahamat pratit hote haian.[19] isalie aj se pray: 5000 varsh poorv shatapath-brahman ka rachana-kal mana ja sakata hai. pro. kith ne bhi shatapath ko apekshakrit adhik prachin brahman mana hai.[20] krittikaoan ke vishay mean bhi shatapath mean jo vivaran milata hai, vah shankar balkrishna dikshit ke anusar 3000 ee.poo. ke as-pas ka hi hai. shatapath ke anusar krittikaean thik poorv disha mean udit hoti haian aur ve vahaan se chyut nahian hoti.[21] pan. satavalekar ke anusar[22] kisi rrishi ne krittikaoan ko poorv disha mean achyut roop mean dekha, tabhi shatapath mean usaka ullekh vartamanakalik kriya se kiya gaya. ab to poorv disha ko chho dakar krittikaean oopar ki or anyatr chali gee haian. unaka oopar ki or sthanantaran 5000 varshoan se kam ki avadhi mean nahian ho sakata. tandy-brahman mean sarasvati ke lupt hone ke sthan ka nam milata hai-‘vinashan’ tatha pun: udbhoot hone ke sthan ka nam hai ‘plaksh prastravan’. kintu shatapath mean sarasvati ke lupt hone ki ghatana ka ullekh nahian hai. pratit hota hai ki shatapath ke kal tak sarasvati lupt nahian huee thi. raja ke abhishekarth jis sarasvat jal ko taiyar kiya jata tha, usamean sarasvati ka jal bhi milaya jata tha.[23] is tathy se bhi shatapath ki prachinata par prakash p data hai.

shatapathagat yajn-mimaansa ka vaishishty

shatapath mean vividh prakar ke yajnoan ke vidhi-vidhan ka atyant saangopang vivaran prapt hota hai. maikdanel ne isi karan ise vaidik vanmay mean rrigved tatha atharvaved ke anantar sarvadhik mahattvapoorn granth batalaya hai.[24] yajnoan ke nanaroopoan tatha vividh anushthanoan ka jis asadharan paripoornata ke sath shatapath mean niroopan hai, any brahmanoan mean nahian. adhyatmik drishti se bhi yajnoan ke svaroop-niroopan ka shrey is brahman ko prapt hai. shatapath-brahmanakar is tathy se avagat hai ki vaidh-yag ek pratikatmak vyapar hai, isilie usane antaryag evan bahiryag mean poorn samanjasy tatha anuroopy par bal diya hai. pra. loois renoo ne bhi is or iangit kiya hai.[25] shatapath ke anusar yajn ka svaroop dvividh hai- prakrit evan kritrim. prakrit yajn prakriti mean nirantar chal raha hai; usi ke anugaman se any yajnoan ke vidhan bane – ‘devanh anuvidha vai manushya: yadh deva: akurvanh tadahan karavani.’ ‘yajn’ ke namakaran ka hetu usaka vistrit kiya jana hai- ‘tadh yadenan tanvate tadenan janayanti s tayamano jayate[26] is brahman mean vakh, purush, pran, prajapati, vishnu adi ko yajn se samikrit kiya gaya hai. shatapath ne yajn ko jivan ka sabase mahattvapoorn krity batalaya hai- ‘yajno vai shreshthataman karm’[27] tadanusar jagat agnishomatmak hai. som ann hai tatha agni annad. agniroopi annad somaroopi ann ki ahuti grahan karata rahata hai. yahi kriya jagat mean satat vidyaman hai. shatapath-brahman mean yajn ki pratikatmak vyakhaean bhi hai. ek roopak ke anusar yajn purush hai, havirdvan usaka shir, ahavaniy mukh, agnidhriy tatha marjaliy donoan bahuean haian. yahaan yajn ka manavikaran kiya gaya hai.[28] srishti-yajn ka roopak bhi ullekhy hai. tadanusar sanvatsar hi yajaman hai, rrituean yajnanishthan karati haian, basant agnighr hai, at: basant mean davagni phailati haian; grishm-rritu adhvaryusvaroop hai, kyoanki vah tapt-si hoti hai. varsha udgata hai, kyoanki usamean zor se shabd karate hue jal-varsha hoti hai; praja brahmavati hai; hemant hota hai.
yah yajn paankt[29] hai. shatapath ne yajn ko devoan ki atma kaha hai.[30] anrit-bhashanadi karyoan se yajn ko kshati pahuanchati hai.[31] yajn hi prakash, din, devata tatha soory hai. devoan ne yajn ke dvara hi sab kuchh paya tha. yajn ke dvara yajaman mrityu se oopar uth jata hai.

shatapath ne yajn-mimaansa ka prarambh haviryagoan se kiya hai jinaka adhar agnihotr hai. agnihotri ko agni mrityu ke pashchath bhi nasht nahian karata, apitu mata-pita ke saman navin janm de deta hai. agnihotr kabhi bhi band nahian hota. yah yajaman ko svarg le jane vali nauka ke sadrish hai-‘naurh va esha yadagnihotramh’[32] ‘adhvaro vai yajn:’[33] prabhriti ullekhoan se spasht hai ki shatapath ki drishti mean samanyat: yajn mean hiansa nahian honi chahie. gyarahavean kand mean panchamahayajnoan-bhootayajn, manushyayajn, pitriyajn, devayajn aur brahmayajn ka vishesh vivechan hai.[34] svadhyayaroop ‘brahmayajn’ ki prarochana karate hue vahian kaha gaya hai ki rrikh ka adhyayan devoan ke lie payash ki ahuti hai, yajushh ka ajyahuti, sam ka somahuti, atharvanigarash ka medash-ahuti hai. vibhinn vedaangoan (anushasan), vakovaky, itihas aur puran tatha narashansi gathaoan ka adhyayan devoan ke lie madhu ki ahuti hai. pan. motilal shastri ne shatapath-brahman ki yag-vivechana mean nihit adhyatmik pratikavatta ki vishad vyakhya apane vijnanabhashy mean ki hai.[35]

shatapath-brahman ne yajn ki sarvangin samriddhi par bal diya hai. isake lie yajnavalky ne anek poorvavarti yagavettaoan se apana matavaibhiny bhi prakat kiya hai. unaki drishti mean yajn ek sajiv purush hai. usake lie bhi sharir ke achchhadanarth vastr evan kshutpipasa-shamanarth bhojan chahie.[36] ve kan-kan mant jivan-pradayini shakti dekhate haian. kisi bhi roop mean yajn ka ang-vaikaly unhean abhisht nahian hai. yajn-vidhi ko yajnavalky apaurushey manate haian. kathin niyamoan se ve palayan nahian karate. kalagat, deshagat, patragat, vastugat tatha kramagat auchityo. par shatapath-brahmanakar ki nirantar drishti rahi hai. vah shabdaprayog ki drishti se bhi nirantar sajag hai. udaharan ke lie ‘darsheshti’ mean adhvaryu vatsapakaran karate samay ‘vayav:sth’ mantr ka uchcharan bhi karata hai. taittiriy shakha mean ‘vayav:sth’ ke sath-sath ‘upayav:sth’[37] path bhi milata hai.[38] any achary bhale hi donoan ko ek samajhate hoan, kintu yajnavalky ne ‘vayav:sth’ path par hi bal diya hai. lokavyavahar ke prati unamean samadar ki drishti hai. yajn-vidhan ke samay usaka ve dhyan rakhate haian. yajn-vedi ka svaroop stri ke saman batalakar unhoanne apani saundary-drishti ka parichay diya hai-‘yosha vai vvaidirvrishagni: parigrihy vai yosh vvrishanan shete.[39] isi prasang mean unaka kathan hai ki yajn-vedi ke donoan aans unnat hone chahie. madhy mean use patali hona chahie tatha usaka pichhala bhag (shroni) adhik chau da hona chahie-
sa vai pashchadvariyasi syath. madhye sansvarita pun: purastadurvyevamiv hi yoshaan prashasanti prithushronirvimrishtantaraan sa madhye sangrahyoti jushtamevainametaddevebhy: karoti.[40]
is prakar yajn-vivechana ke prasang mean shatapath-brahmanakar ka drishtikon atyant vyavaharik, sarvangin aur kalamay hai.

shatapath-brahman mean saanskritik tattv

shatapath-brahman ke shashth se lekar dasavean kand tak, jinhean ‘shandily-kand’ bhi kahate haian, kyoanki inamean unake mat ka adarapoorvak paun: punyen ullekh hai, gandhar, kekay aur shalv janapadoan ki vishesh charcha ki gee hai. any kandoan mean aryavart ke madhy tatha poorvabhag- kuru paanchal, kosal, videh, srianjay adi janapadoan ka ullekh hai. shatapath-brahman mean vaidik sanskriti ke sarasvat-mandal se poorv ki or prasar ka saanketiy kathan hai. ashvamedh ke prasang mean anek prachin samratoan ka ullekh hai jinamean janak, dushyant aur janamejay ke nam mahattvapoorn haian. devashastriy samagri bhi shatapath mean pushkal haian. varun ko ‘dharmapati’ kaha gaya hai[41] jo unake rrit (prakriti ke shashvat niyam) palak svaroop ka dyotak hai. is brahman mean kul 3003 devoan ki sthiti batalaee gee hai, kintu vastav mean 33 devataoan ka hi svaroop-niroopan hai.[42] vidagdh shakaly ne jab yajnavalky se 3003 devoan ke nam poochhe, to unhoanne uttar diya ki ye dev n hokar unaki mahilaean haian. namna keval 33 devoan ka hi ullekh hai. ye haian-

shatapath-brahman akhyanoan ka ek atyant mahattvapoorn sankalan hai inamean anek aise akhyan haian, jinaka itihas-puran mean vishad upabrianhan hua hai. inamean indr-vritr-yuddh, yoshitkami gandharv, suparni tatha kadroo, chyavan bhargav tatha sharyat manav, svarbhanu asur tatha soory, veny, asur namuchi evan indr, puroorava-urvashi, keshinh-rajany, manu evan shraddha tatha jal-plavan adi ke akhyan atyant mahattvapoorn haian.

srishti-prakriya

shatapath-brahman ke anusar srishti ke prarambh mean, brahm ke do roop the- moort aur amoort. inhean ‘yath’ aur ‘tyath’ arthat sath tatha asath kaha ja sakata hai-‘dvai vav brahmano roope. moortt chaivamoorttamh. sthitan ch yachch. sachch tyachch’.[45] yajn vishvasrishti ka moolahetu hai. yajn mean hi prajaean utpann hueean, jinase srishti ka vikas hota raha-‘yajnadvai praja: yajnatprajayamana mithuna prajayante…antato yajnasyema: praja: prajayant’.[46] srishti-karta prajapati yajn haian. manu-matsy-prakaran mean pralay ke anantar manu ke dvara jal evan amiksha se sampadit yajn se ek sundar stri ki utpatti batalaee gee hai. is prakar yajn vishv ki nabhisthali hai. abhipray yah hai ki srishti ke arambh mean ekamatr brahm ki satta thi aur tadanantar prajapati ki-‘prajapatirva idamagr asith’.[47] is bindu par shatapath ka any brahmanagranthoan se poorn sahamaty dikhata hai. age prajapati ke ajayaman tatha vijayaman (nirukt tatha anirukt) roopoan ka ullekh hai-
