vivaran puranon men varnit ek prasiddh pauranik katha hai jisamen devataon aur danavon ne milakar samudr ka mnthan kiya tha.
karan durvasa rishi ne apana apaman hone ke karan devaraj indr ko ‘shri’ (lakshmi) se hin ho jane ka shap de diya. bhagavan vishnu ne indr ko shap mukti ke lie asuron ke sath 'samudr mnthan' ke lie kaha.

samudr mnthan ka karan

ek bar ki bat hai shivaji ke darshanon ke lie durvasa rishi apane shishyon ke sath kailash ja rahe the. marg men unhen devaraj indr mile. indr ne durvasa rishi aur unake shishyon ko bhaktipoorvak pranam kiya. tab durvasa ne indr ko ashirvad dekar vishnu bhagavan ka parijat pushp pradan kiya. indrasan ke garv men choor indr ne us pushp ko apane airavat hathi ke mastak par rakh diya. us pushp ka sparsh hote hi airavat sahasa vishnu bhagavan ke saman tejasvi ho gaya. usane indr ka parityag kar diya aur us divy pushp ko kuchalate hue van ki or chala gaya.

durvasha rishi ka shap

indr dvara bhagavan vishnu ke pushp ka tiraskar hote dekhakar durvasha rishi ke krodh ki sima n rahi. unhonne devaraj indr ko ‘shri’ (lakshmi) se hin ho jane ka shap de diya. durvasa muni ke shap ke phalasvaroop lakshmi usi kshan svargalok ko chhodakar adrishy ho geen. lakshmi ke chale jane se indr adi devata nirbal aur shrihin ho ge. unaka vaibhav lupt ho gaya. indr ko balahin janakar daityon ne svarg par akraman kar diya aur devagan ko parajit karake svarg ke rajy par apani paracham phahara diya. tab indr devaguru brihaspati aur any devataon ke sath brahmaji ki sabha men upasthit hue. tab brahmaji bole —‘‘devendr ! bhagavan vishnu ke bhogaroopi pushp ka apaman karane ke karan rusht hokar bhagavati lakshmi tumhare pas se chali gayi hain. unhen punah prasann karane ke lie tum bhagavan narayan ki kripa-drishti prapt karo. unake ashirvad se tumhen khoya vaibhav punah mil jaega.’’

shap mukti ka upay

is prakar brahmaji ne indr ko asvast kiya aur unhen lekar bhagavan vishnu ki sharan men pahunche. vahan parabrahm bhagavan vishnu bhagavati lakshmi ke sath virajaman the. devagan bhagavan vishnu ki stuti karate hue bole—‘‘bhagavanh ! apake shricharanon men hamara barambar pranam. bhagavanh ! ham sab jis uddeshy se apaki sharan men ae hain, kripa karake ap use poora kijie. durvasha rishi ke shap ke karan mata lakshmi hamase rooth gee hain aur daityon ne hamen parajit kar svarg par adhikar kar liya hai. ab ham apaki sharan men hain, hamari raksha kijie.’’ bhagavan vishnu trikaladarshi hain. ve pal bhar men hi devataon ke man ki bat jan ge. tab ve devagan se bole—‘‘devagan ! meri bat dhyanapoorvak sunen, kyonki keval yahi tumhare kalyan ka upay hai. daityon par is samay kal ki vishesh kripa hai isalie jab tak tumhare utkarsh aur daityon ke patan ka samay nahin ata, tab tak tum unase sndhi kar lo. kshirasagar ke garbh men anek divy padarthon ke sath-sath amrit bhi chhipa hai. use pine vale ke samane mrityu bhi parajit ho jati hai. isake lie tumhen samudr mnthan karana hoga. yah kary atynt dushkar hai, atah is kary men daityon se sahayata lo. kootaniti bhi yahi kahati hai ki avashyakata padane par shatruon ko bhi mitr bana lena chahie. tatpashchath amrit pikar amar ho jao. tab dusht daity bhi tumhara ahit nahin kar sakenge. devagan ! ve jo shart rakhen, use svakir kar len. yah bat yad rakhen ki shanti se sabhi kary ban jate hain, krodh karane se kuchh nahin hota.’’ bhagavan vishnu ke paramarsh ke anusar indradi devagan daityaraj bali ke pas sndhi ka prastav lekar ge aur unhen amrit ke bare men batakar samudr mnthan ke lie taiyar kar liya.

samudr mnthan katha

isi samay megh ke saman gambhir svar men akashavani huee- 'devatao aur daityo! tum kshir samudr ka manthan karo. is kary men tumhare bal ki vriddhi hogi, isamen tanik bhi sndeh nahin hai. mandarachal ko mathani aur vasuki nag ko rassi banao, phir devata aur daity milakar manthan arambh karo.' yah akashavani sunakar sahastron daity aur devata samudr-manthan ke liye udyat ho suvarn ke sadrish kantimanh mandarachal ke samip gaye. vah parvat sidha, golakar, bahut mota aur atyant prakashaman tha. anek prakar ke ratn usaki shobha badha rahe the. chandan, parijat, nagakeshar, jayaphal aur champa adi bhanti-bhanti ke vrikshon se vah hara-bhara dikhayi deta tha.

mandarachal parvat

us mahanh parvat ko dekhakar sampoorn devataon ne hath jodakar kaha- 'doosaron ka upakar karane vale mahashail mandarachal ! ham sab devata tumase kuchh nivedan karane ke liye yahan aye hain, use tum suno.' unake yon kahane par mandarachal ne dehadhari purush ke roop men prakat hokar kaha- 'devagan! ap sab log mere pas kis kary se aye hain, use bataiye.' tab indr ne madhur vani men kaha- 'mandarachal! tum hamare sath rahakar ek kary men sahayak bano; ham samudr ko mathakar usase amrit nikalana chahate hain, is kary ke liye tum mathani ban jao.' mandarachal ne 'bahut achchha' kahakar unaki agya svikar ki aur devakary ki siddhi ke liye devataon, daityon tatha visheshat: indr se kaha- 'punyatma devaraj! apane apane vajr se mere donon pnkh kat dale hain, phir ap logon ke kary ki siddhi ke liye vahan tak main chal kaise sakata hoon?' tab sampoorn devataon aur daityon ne us anupam parvat ko kshir samudr tak le jane ki ichchha se ukhad liya; parntu ve use dharan karane men samarth n ho sake. vah mahanh parvat usi samay devataon aur daityon ke oopar gir pada. kee kuchale gaye, kee mar gaye, kee moorchchhit ho gaye, kee ek-doosare ko kosane aur chillane lage tatha kuchh logon ne bade klesh ka anubhav kiya. is prakar unaka udyam aur utsah bhng ho gaya. ve devata aur danav sachet hone par jagadishvar bhagavan vishnu ki stuti karane lage- 'sharanagatavatsal mahavishno! hamari raksha kijiye, raksha kijiye. apane hi is sampoorn charachar jagath ko vyapt kar rakha hai.'

vishnu aur vasuki nag

samudr mnthan

us samay devataon ka kary siddh karane ke liye garud ki pith par baithe hue bhagavan vishnu sahasa vahan prakat ho gaye. ve sabako abhay dene vale hain. unhonne devataon aur daityon ki or drishtipat karake khel-khel men hi us mahanh parvat ko uthakar garud ki pith par rakh liya. phir ve devataon aur daityon ko kshir-samudr ke uttar-tat par le gaye aur parvatashreshth mandarachal ko samudr men dalakar turnt vahan se chal diye. tadanantar sab devata daityon ko sath lekar vasuki nag ke samip gaye aur unase bhi apani prarthana svikar karayi. is prakar mandarachal ko mathani aur vasuki-nag ko rassi banakar devataon aur daityon ne kshir-samudr ka manthan arambh kiya. itane men hi vah parvat samudr men doobakar rasatal ko ja pahuncha. tab lakshmipati bhagavanh vishnu ne kachchhaparoop dharan karake tatkal hi mandarachal ko oopar utha diya. us samay yah ek adbhut ghatana huee. phir jab devata aur daityon ne mathani ko ghumana arambh kiya, tab vah parvat bina guru ke gyan ki bhanti koee sudridh adhar n hone ke karan idhar-udhar dolane laga. yah dekh paramatma bhagavanh vishnu svayn hi mandarachal ke adhar ban gaye aur unhonne apani charon bhujaon se mathani bane hue us parvat ko bhali-bhanti pakadakar use sukhapoorvak ghumane yogy bana diya. tab atyant balavanh devata aur daity ekibhoot ho adhik zor lagakar kshir-samudr ka manthan karane lage.

vishnuji ka kachchhap roop

kachchhap roopadhari bhagavan ki pith janm se hi kathor thi aur us par ghoomane vala parvatashreshth mandarachal bhi vajrasar ki bhanti dridh tha. un donon ki ragad se samudr men badavanal prakat ho gaya. sath hi halahal vish utpann hua. us vish ko sabase pahale narad ji ne dekha. tab amit tejasvi devarshi ne devataon ko pukar kar kaha- 'aditi kumaro! ab tum samudr ka manthan n karo. is samay sampoorn upadravon ka nash karane vale bhagavan shiv ki prarthana karo. ve paratpar hain, paramanandasvaroop hain tatha yogi purush bhi unhin ka dhyan karate hain.' devata apane svarthasadhan men snlagn ho samudr mnthan rahe the. ve apani hi abhilasha men tanmay hone ke karan narad ji ki bat nahin sun sake. keval udyam ka bharosa karake ve kshir-sagar ke manthan men snlagn the. adhik manthan se jo halahal vish prakat hua, vah tinon lokon ko bhasm kar dene vala tha. vah praudh vish devataon ka pran lene ke liye unake samip a pahuncha aur oopar–niche tatha sampoorn dishaon men phail gaya. samast praniyon ko apana gras banane ke liye prakat hue us kalakoot vish ko dekhakar ve sab devata aur daity hath men pakade hue nagaraj vasuki ko mandarachal parvat sahit vahin chhod bhag khade hue. us samay us lokasnharakari kalakoot vish ko bhagavan shiv ne svayn apana gras bana liya. unhonne us vish ko nirmal (nirdosh) kar diya. is prakar bhagavan shnkar ki badi bhari kripa hone se devata, asur, manushy tatha sampoorn triloki ki us samay kalakoot vish se raksha huee.

chandradev ka prakaty

tadanantar bhagavan vishnu ke samip mandarachal ko mathani aur vasuki nag ko rassi banakar devataon ne pun: samudr-manthan arambh kiya. tab samudr se devakary ki siddhi ke liye amritamayi kalaon se paripoorn chandradev prakat hue. sampoorn devata, asur aur danavon ne bhagavan chndrama ko pranam kiya aur gargachary ji se apane-apane chandrabal ki yatharth roop se jigyasa ki. us samay gargachary ji ne devataon se kaha- 'is samay tum sab logon ka bal thik hai. tumhare sabhi uttam grah kenndr sthan men (lagn men, chaturth sthan men, saptam sthan men aur dasham sthan men) hain. chandrama se guru ka yog hua hai. budh, soory, shukr, shani aur mngal bhi chandrama se snyukt hue hain. isaliye tumhare kary ki siddhi ke nimitt is samay chandrabal bahut uttam hai. yah gomant namak muhoort hai, jo vijay pradan karane vala hai.' mahatma gargaji ke is prakar ashrvasan dene par mahabali devata garjana karate hue bade veg se samudr-manthan karane lage.

char divy vriksh

mathe jate hue samudr ke charon or bade zor ki avaz uth rahi thi. is bar ke manthan se devakaryon ki siddhi ke liye sakshath surabhi kamadhenu prakat hueen. unhen kale, shvet, pile, hare tatha lal rng ki saikadon gauen ghere hue thin. us samay rishiyon ne bade harsh men bharakar devataon aur daityon se kamadhenu ke liye yachana ki aur kaha- 'ap sab log milakar bhinn-bhinn gotravale brahmanon ko kamadhenu sahit in sampoorn gauon ka dan avashy karen.' rishiyon ke yachana karane par devataon aur daityon ne bhagavanh shnkar ki prasannata ke liye ve sab gauen dan kar din tatha ygy karmon men bhali-bhanti man ko lagane vale un param mngalamay mahatma rishiyon ne un gauon ka dan svikar kiya. tatpashchath sab log bade josh men akar kshirasagar ko mathane lage. tab samudr se kalpavriksh, parijat, am ka vriksh aur santan- ye char divy vriksh prakat hue.

kaustubh mani

un sabako ekatr rakhakar devataon ne pun: bade veg se samudr manthan arambh kiya. is bar ke manthan se ratnon men sabase uttam ratn kaustubh prakat hua, jo sooryamandal ke saman param kantiman tha. vah apane prakash se tinon lokon ko prakashit kar raha tha. devataon ne chintamani ko age rakhakar kaustubh ka darshan kiya aur use bhagavan vishnu ki seva men bhent kar diya. tadanantar, chintamani ko madhy men rakhakar devataon aur daityon ne pun: samudr ko mathana arambh kiya. ve sabhi bal men badhe-chadhe the aur bar-bar garjana kar rahe the. ab ki bar use mathe jate hue samudr se uchchai:shrava namak ashrv prakat hua. vah samast ashrvajati men ek adbhut ratn tha. usake bad gaj jati men ratn bhoot airavat prakat hua. usake sath shvetavarn ke chausath hathi aur the. airavat ke char dant bahar nikale hue the aur mastishk se mad ki dhara bah rahi thi. in sabako bhi madhy men sthapit karake ve sab pun: samudr mathane lage. us samay us samudr se madira, bhang, kakadasingi, lahasun, gajar, atyadhik unmadakarak dhatoor tatha pushkar adi bahut-si vastuen prakat hueen. in sabako bhi samudr ke kinare ek sthan par rakh diya gaya. tatpashchath ve shreshth devata aur danav pun: pahale ki hi bhanti samudr-manthan karane lage. ab ki bar samudr se sampoorn bhuvanon ki ekamatr adhishvari divyaroopa devi mahalakshmi prakat hueen, jinhen brahmavetta purush anvikshiki (vedant-vidya) kahate hain. inhin ko doosare log 'mool-vidya' kahakar pukarate hain.

devi mahalakshmi

kuchh samarthyashali mahatma inhin ko vani aur brahmavidya bhi kahate hain. koee-koee inhin ko riddhi, siddhi, agya aur asha nam dete hain. koee yogi purush inhin ko 'vaishnavi' kahate hain. sada udyam men lage rahane vale maya ke anuyayi inhin ko 'maya' ke roop men janate hain. jo anek prakar ke siddhanton ko janane vale tatha gyanashakti se sampann hain, ve inhin ko bhagavan ki 'yogamaya' kahate hain. devataon ne dekha devi mahalakshmi ka roop param sundar hai. unake manohar mukh par svabhavik prasannata virajaman hai. har aur noopuron se unake shriango ki badi shobha ho rahi hai. mastishk par chhatr tana hua hai, donon or se chnvar dul rahe hain; jaise mata apane putron ki or sneh aur dular bhari drishti se dekhati hai, usi prakar sati mahalakshmi ne devata, danav, siddh, charan aur nag adi sampoorn praniyon ki or drishtipat kiya. mata mahalakshmi ki kripa-drishti pakar sampoorn devata usi samay shrisampann ho gaye. ve tatkal rajyadhikari ke shubh lakshanon se sampann dikhayi dene lage.

lakshmi dvara narayan ka varan

tadanantar devi lakshmi ne bhagavan mukund ki or dekha. unake shriang tamal ke saman shyamavarn the. kapol aur nasika badi sundar thi. ve param manohar divy sharir se prakashit ho rahe the. unake vaksh:sthal men shrivats ka chihn sushobhit tha. bhagavan ek hath men kaumod ki gada shobha pa rahi thi. bhagavanh narayan ki us divy shobha ko dekhate hi lakshmi ji ashcharyachakit ho uthin aur hath men vanamala le sahasa hathi se utar padin. vah mala shriji ne apane hi hathon banayi thin, usake oopar bhramar mndara rahe the. devi ne vah sundar vanamala paramapurush bhagavan vishnu ke kanth men pahana di aur svayn unake vam bhag men jakar khadi ho gayin. us shobhashali dampati ka vahan darshan karake sampoorn devata, daity, siddh, apsaraen, kinnar tatha charanagan param anand ko prapt hue.

dhanvantari aur amrit

lakshmi dvara vishnu varan ke bad samudr mnthan se kanya ke roop men varuni prakat hee jise daityon ne grahan kiya. phir ek ke pashchath ek chandrama, parijat vriksh tatha shnkh nikale aur ant men dhanvantari vaidy amrit ka ghat lekar prakat huye." dhanvantari ke hath se amrit ko daityon ne chhin liya aur usake liye apas men hi ladane lage. devataon ke pas durvasa ke shapavash itani shakti rahi nahin thi ki ve daityon se ladakar us amrit ko le saken isaliye ve nirash khade huye unaka apas men ladana dekhate rahe.

mohini roop dharan

devataon ki nirasha ko dekhakar bhagavan vishnu tatkal mohini roop dharan kar apas men ladate daityon ke pas ja pahunche. us vishvamohini roop ko dekhakar daity tatha devataon ki to bat hi kya, svayn brahmgyani, kamadev ko bhasm kar dene vale, bhagavan shnkar bhi mohit hokar unaki or bar-bar dekhane lage. jab daityon ne us navayauvana sundari ko apani or ate huye dekha tab ve apana sara jhagada bhool kar usi sundari ki or kamasakt hokar ekatak dekhane lage. ve daity bole, "he sundari! tum kaun ho? lagata hai ki hamare jhagade ko dekhakar usaka nibatara karane ke liye hi ham par kripa kataksh kar rahi ho. ao shubhage! tumhara svagat hai. hamen apane sundar kar kamalon se yah amritapan karao." is par vishvamohini roopi vishnu ne kaha, "he devataon aur danavon! ap donon hi maharshi kashyap ji ke putr hone ke karan bhaee-bhaee ho phir bhi paraspar ladate ho. main to svechchhacharini stri hoon. buddhiman log aisi stri par kabhi vishvas nahin karate, phir tum log kaise mujh par vishvas kar rahe ho? achchha yahi hai ki svayn sab mil kar amritapan kar lo."

devataon ko amritapan

vishvamohini ke aise niti kushal vachan sun kar un kamandh daityon, danavon aur asuron ko us par aur bhi vishvas ho gaya. ve bole, "sundari! ham tum par poorn vishvas hai. tum jis prakar bantogi ham usi prakar amritapan kar lenge. tum ye ghat le lo aur ham sabhi men amrit vitaran karo." vishvamohini ne amrit ghat lekar devataon aur daityon ko alag-alag pnktiyo men baithane ke liye kaha. usake bad daityon ko apane kataksh se madahosh karate huye devataon ko amritapan karane lage. daity unake kataksh se aise madahosh huye ki amrit pina hi bhool gaye.

rahu aur ketu

bhagavan ki is chal ko rahu namak daity samajh gaya. vah devata ka roop bana kar devataon men jakar baith gaya aur prapt amrit ko mukh men dal liya. jab amrit usake kanth men pahunch gaya tab chandrama tatha soory ne pukar kar kaha ki ye rahu daity hai. yah sunakar bhagavan vishnu ne tatkal apane sudarshan chakr se usaka sir gardan se alag kar diya. amrit ke prabhav se usake sir aur dhad rahu aur ketu nam ke do grah ban kar antariksh men sthapit ho gaye. ve hi bair bhav ke karan soory aur chandrama ka grahan karate hain.

devasur sngram

is tarah devataon ko amrit pilakar bhagavan vishnu vahan se lop ho gaye. unake lop hote hi daityon ki madahoshi samapt ho gee. ve atyant krodhit ho devataon par prahar karane lage. bhaynkar devasur sngram arambh ho gaya jisamen devaraj indr ne daityaraj bali ko parast kar apana indralok vapas le liya.

chaudah (14) ratnon ki prapti

samudr mnthan ki mithakiy ghatana ke bad jo chaudah (14) ratnon ki prapti huee usase snbndhit nimnalikhit pnktiyan smaraniy hain:-

shri, mani, rambha, varuni, amiy, shnkh, gajaraj
dhenu, dhanush, shashi, kalpataru, dhanvantari, vish, vaj.[1]
