jayashnkar prasad krit upanyas jo 1929 men prakashit hua tha. prasad mukhyataya adarsh ki bhoomika par kary karane vale rachanakar hain kintu 'knkal' unaki ek aisi kriti hai jisamen poornataya yatharth ka agrah hai. is drishti se unaka yah upanyas vishesh sthan rakhata hai.

'knkal' men desh ki samajik aur dharmik sthiti ka ankan hai aur adhikansh patr isi pithika men chitrit kiye gaye hain. nayak vijay aur nayika tara ke madhyam se prem aur vivah jaise prashnon se lekar jati-varn tatha vyakti-samaj jaisi samasyaon par lekhak ne vichar kiya hai.

kathavastu aur yatharth

is upanyas ki kathavastu mukhyataya madhyamavarg se sambandh rakhati hai aur samaj ke paryapt chitron ko ubhara gaya hai jinamen vartaman ka ek sashlisht chitr prastut ho sake. veshyalayon ki sthiti ke sath hi kashi, prayag, haridvar jaise tirthasthanon ke sadhu-snton ka varnan ek virodh pratit hota hai par yatharth ko vistar dene ki drishti se aisa karana nitant avashyak tha. yatharth-samajik yatharth ko upanyas men ankit karane ke lie prasad ne kahin-kahin vyngy ka ashray bhi grahan kiya hai, jo unaki pravritti ke adhik anukool nahin, par yatharth ki sarthakata tikhe vyngy men hi hoti hai. 'knkal' men aisa samaj ankit hai jisaki adharabhoomi hil gayi ho. purani manyataen aur vishvas isamen dharashayi hain. bade kulin gharanon men kya hal hai, ise nayak-nayika ke jivan men dekha ja sakata hai. dharm ke thekedar padari kisi yuvati ki paristhiti ka labh uthakar use premapash men abaddh karane ki cheshta karate hain, samaj men striyon ki sthiti ka snket karati huee ghanti ek sthal par kahati hai-

"hindoo striyon ka samaj hi kaisa hai, isamen unake lie koee adhikar ho tab to sochana-vicharana chahie...."

isi prakar yamuna kahati hai -

"koee samaj striyon ka nahin bahan! sab purushon ke hain, striyon ka ek dharm hai, aghat sahan karane ki kshamata..."

navin jagaran par adharit

jo samajik vishamata, andhavishvas, bhedabhav, pakhand prachalit hai usake sthan par prasad udar manaviyata par adharit ek naya samaj chahate hain. 'knkal' ka yahi pratipady hai. kaha ja sakata hai ki jo navin jagaran bisavin shati men apane desh men aya hai usi ki bhoomika par knkal ki rachana huee hai.

'knkal' ek aise rachanakar ki kriti hai jo mukhyataya kavi hai. yatharth ka chitran hote hue bhi isamen prasad ki bhavukata kahin-kahin jhalakati hai aur lambe uddharanon men jahan vicharon ka kram hai, yah adhik spasht hai. upanyas men ghatanaon ki snkhya adhik hai aur kathakram ki sundar yojana men kuchh badha padati hai. kuchh log ise prasad ki pracharatmak drishti kah sakate hain, par samajik yatharth ka vishleshan karane vala lekhak apane vicharon ko kisi n kisi prakar prakat karega hi.

samaj-darshan

'knkal' ki shakti usaka samaj-darshan hai, jisamen nishchit roop se vyakti ki pratishtha hai par vyakti ka yah svatntry samajik dayitv tatha vyapak manaviyata par adharit hai. bisavin shati men jo samajik aur rashtriy chetana desh men vikasit huee hai, usaka prabhav knkal par spasht hai.
