yogavashishth maharamayan ke rachayita adikavi valmiki mane jate hain. yah snskrit sahity men advait vedant ka ati mahatvapoorn granth hai. isamen rishi vasishth bhagavan ram ko nirgun brahm ka gyan dete hain. mahabharat ke bad snskrit ka yah doosara sabase bada granth hai. yah yog ka bhi mahatvapoorn granth hai. 'maharamayan', 'yogavasishth ramayan', 'arsh ramayan', 'vasishth ramayan' tatha 'gyanavasishth' adi namon se bhi ise jana jata hai.

parichay

bhagavan shriram ka vivek matr 16 varsh ki umr men jag gaya aur ve vivek-vichar men khoye rahane lage. unhin dinon ygyon ka dhvns karane vale marich adi rakshas maharshi vishvamitr ke bhi ygy men vighn dalakar unhen tng kar rahe the. vishvamitr ne socha ki 'raja dasharath dharmatma hain. main unase madad loon.' ve ayodhya gaye. raja dasharath ko jaise hi khabar mili ki vishvamitr ji aye hain, ve sinhasan se turnt uth khade hue aur svayn unake pas jakar unake charanon men dndavath pranam kiya.

raja dasharath ne vishvamitr ko tilak kiya, unaki arati utari, phir poochha- "munishardool ! main apaki kya seva karoon?"

vishvamitr bole- "jo mangooga, vah doge?"

"maharaj! main aur mera rajy apake charanon men arpit hai."

"yah nahin chahie. apake suputr ram aur lakshman mujhe de do."

yah sunakar raja dasharath moorchchhit ho gaye, phir hosh men ane par bole- "maharaj! yah mat mango, kuchh aur mang lo."


vishvamitr krodhit hokar bole- "achchha, khali ghar se sadhu khali hi jata hai. abhaga adami kya jane sadhu ki seva? kaun abhaga manushy sadhu ke daivi kary men sahabhagi ho sakata hai? ham yah chale."

dasharath ghabaraye ki snt roothakar, naraj hokar chale jayen yah thik nahin hai. vasishth ne bhi dasharath ko samajhaya ki "vishvamitr ji ke pas vajr jaisa tapobal hai. ye svayn samarth hain rakshason ko shap dene men, lekin snt lohe se loha katana chahate hain, sone se nahin. vishvamitr ji apake rajakumaron dvara tadaka adi ka vadh karayenge aur unhen prasiddh karenge. isalie ram-lakshman ko vishvamitr ko arpan karane men hi apaki shobha hai."

raja dasharath ne kaha- "shriram to vivek karake snsar se uparam ho gaye hain."

vasishth ne kaha- "sadho-sadho! jab shriram ka vivek jaga hai to ham unhen gyani bana kar bhej denge, karmabndhan se par karake bhej denge. ve brahm gyani hokar rajy karen."

prakaran

  1. bhagavan shriram ko adar ke sath rajasabha men laya gaya aur vahan unhonne apane hriday ke vichar prakat kiye. inhin vicharon ka varnan 'shri yogavasishth maharamayan' ke pahale prakaran 'vairagy prakaran' men kiya gaya hai.
  2. phir vasishth aur vishvamitr ne ram ke vairagy ki sarahana ki aur jaise bij bokar sinchaee ki jati hai, vaise hi unako upadesh kar unamen snskar sinche. in upadeshon ka varnan doosare prakaran 'mumukshu vyavahar prakaran' men kiya gaya hai.
  3. 'srishti ka mool kya hai aur jagat ki utpatti kaise huee?' isaka upadesh diya gaya hai, jisaka varnan tisare prakaran 'utpatti prakaran' men kiya gaya hai.
  4. anatma se uparam hokar atma men sthiti karane ka upadesh diya gaya hai, jisaka varnan chauthe prakaran 'sthiti prakaran' men kiya gaya hai.
  5. phir upadesh ka silasila badhata gaya, sukh-duahkh men samata ka abhyas karane aur paramatma men vishranti pane ka upadesh diya gaya hai, jisaka varnan panchaven prakaran 'upasham prakaran' men kiya gaya hai.
  6. jaise tel khatm hone par diya bujh jata hai, nirvan ho jata hai, vaise hi man ko hamari satta n milane se usaki daud, bhatakan khatm ho jati hai arthath man ka nirvan ho jata hai. isi ka upadesh akhiri chhathe prakaran 'nirvan prakaran' men diya gaya hai.
