urmila ka nam hinduon ke pavitr dharm grnth ramayan men lakshman ki patni ke roop men milata hai. mahabharat, puran tatha kavy men bhi isase adhik urmila ka koee parichay nahin milata. keval adhunik kal men urmila ke vishay men vishesh sahanubhooti prakat ki gayi hai. yug ki bhavana se prerit hokar adhunik yug men daliton, patiton aur upekshiton ke uddhar ke jo prayatn kiye gaye hain unamen prachin kavyon ke vismrit aur upekshit patron, visheshakar stri patron ka bhi uchchatam sthan hai.

parichay

valmiki ramayan ke anusar, urmila janak nndani sita ki chhoti bahan thin aur sita ke vivah ke samay hi dasharath aur sumitra ke putr lakshman ko byahi gee thin. inake angad aur chandraketu nam ke do putr tatha somada nam ki ek putri thi. adhunik sahityakaron ne urmila ko vividh kalaon men parngat aur kartavyaparayan nari ke roop men chitrit kiya hai. ram ke sath lakshman ke bhi chaudah varsh ke lie van jane par urmila ne apani virah-vyatha ko jiv-jantuon ke prati sahanubhooti men badal diya.[1]

  • ram kavy parampara men urmila ke charitr ka saphal rekhankan ‘saket’ aur ‘urmila’ men milata hai, jisamen usake upekshit vyaktitv ko ubhara gaya hai. ‘saket’ ka navamh sarg urmila ke virah-vishad ki charam nidarshana hai. vah apane man-mandir men priy ki pratibha sthapit kar sampoorn bhogon ko tyag kar apana jivan yogamay bana leti hai, yatha-
manas mandir men sati, pati ki pratima thap,

jalati thi us virah men, bani arati ap .
ankhon men priy moorti thi, bhoole the sab bhog,

hua yog se bhi adhik, usaka visham viyog ॥[2]
  • urmila men kshatrani ka vyaktitv bhi drishtigochar hota hai. lakshman ko shakti lagane ka samachar pakar vah shatrughn ke samip upasthit ho jati hai. vah kartikey ke nikat bhavani lag rahi thi. usake anan par sau aroonon ka tej phoot raha tha. usake mathe ka sindoor sajag angar sadrish tha.[3] vah kahati hain-
vindhy-himachal-bhal bhala jhuk a n dhiro,

chandr-soory kul-kirti kala rook jay n viro .[4]
thaharo, yah main chaloon kirti si age-age,

bhogen apane visham karmaphal adham abhage ॥[5]
  • urmila aur lakshman ka parasparik prem ek-doosare ko poornata ki or agrasar karata hai. is yugal ka prem shuddh, satvik aur atmik hai. usamen kahin uchchhrinkhalata, vilasita aur parthivata ki durgandh nahin hai. tabhi to snyog ki apoorv vela men urmila lakshman se poochhati hai ki-
prem ke shuddh roop kaho- sammilan hai pradhan ya gaun?
kaun ooncha hai? bhavodrek? ya ki nat atmanivedan maun?[6]
  • daau. shyamasundar das ne kaha, ‘kavy ki yah chir upekshita, ‘saket’ hi nahin, hindi mahakavyon ki charitrabhoomi men pratham bar jis vesh men prakat hoti hai, vah vesh ashru vigalit hokar bhi ojamay, adarshapradhan hokar bhi svabhavikata ke nikat evn daivi gunon se mndit hokar bhi nari sulabh hai .[7]

mahattvapoorn sndarbh

  • sarvapratham mahakavi ravindranath thakur ne apane ek nibandh men atyant bhavukatapoorn shaili men upekshita urmila ka smaran kiya aur adikavi valmiki tatha any paravarti kaviyon ki urmila-vishayak udasinata ki alochana ki. usi lekh se prerana lekar achary mahavir prasad dvivedi ne 'sarasvati' men ek lekh likha aur kaviyon ko urmila ka uddhar karane ka ahvan kiya.
  • maithilisharan gupt ne dvivedi ji ke lekh se prerana lekar 'urmila-uttap' rachana prarambh ki. 'urmila-uttap' ke char sarg sanh 1920 ke pahale hi rache ja chuke the kintu bad men gupt ji ne apani rachana ko sampoorn ramakatha ka roop dene ka vichar kiya aur ise 'saket' ke nam se rachakar prakashit kiya. ram katha men urmila jaise ek gaun patr ko jitani pramukhata di ja sakati thi, gupt ji ne use dene ka bharapoor prayatn kiya. unhonne urmila ke alpakalin snyog ka manohar chitr dekar usake dirgh aur darun viyog ka atyant marmik aur prabhavashali chitr dene men saphalata prapt ki. 'saket' ke navam sarg men urmila ke virahi jivan ke bade hi marmasparshi chitr milate hain. gupt ji ne is chitrankan men prachin kaviyon ke varnanon aur uktiyon ka prayog kar apane kavyanushilan ka bhi parichay diya hai. 'saket' ke antim sarg men lakshman aur urmila ka punarmilan vaisa hi hridayavarjak hai, jaisa ki pratham sarg men varnit unaka snyogasukh ahladakari hai.
  • urmila vishayak kuchh any rachanaen bhi huee jisamen balakrishn sharma 'navin' ka 'urmila' shirshak khandakavy vishesh ullekhaniy hai. is khandakavy men keval urmila vishayak ghatana prasngon ko lene ke karan kavi kathanak ki ekatmakata aur svatantrata ko adhik surakshit rakh saka hai.
