gopath brahman atharvaved ka ek matr brahman grnth hai. 'rishi gopath' dvara is granth ki rachana ki gee thi. gopath brahman men agnishtom, ashvamedh jaise ygyon ke vidhi-vidhan ke atirikt oonkar tatha gayatri ki bhi mahima ka varnan hai. kaivaly ki avadharan ka ullekh isi brahman men hai. atharvaved ka ekamatr upalabdh brahmanagranth gopath-brahman hai. sudirghakal tak isake shakha-sambandh ke vishay men anishchay ki sthiti rahi, kyonki atharvaved ki nau shakhaon men se shaunakiya shakha vishesh prasiddh aur prachalit rahi hai. gopath-brahman men shaunakiya shakha ke mantron ka bhi nirdesh pratikon ke dvara kiya gaya hai, isalie is shakha se bhi isaka sambaddh man liya gaya tha. ab gopath-brahman ka sambandh paippalad shakha se sunishchit ho gaya hai, kyonki patnjali ne vyakaran-mahabhashy men atharvaved ke pratham mantr ke roop men 'shanno devirabhishtaye' prabhriti mantr ka ullekh kiya hai jo paippaladashakhiy atharvaved men hi prapt hota hai. isaka vivaran gopath-brahman men bhi hai. venkatamadhav ki 'rigvedanukramani' se bhi isaki pushti hoti hai-
aitareyamasmakn paippaladamatharvanamh. tritiyn tittiriproktn jananh vriddh ihochyate[1]

gopath-brahman ka namakaran

gopath-brahman ke namakaran ke vishay men samanyat: char prakar ke mat upalabdh hain-

  • rishi gopath is brahman ke pravakta hain. unhin ke nam se is granth ki prasiddhi huee. smaraniy hai ki shaunakiy atharvavedi ke char sookton[2] ke drashta gopath mane jate hain. aitarey brahman, kaushitaki brahman aur taittiriy brahman prabhriti any brahman-granthon ki prasiddhi bhi pravachanakarta acharyo ke nam par hai.
  • 'gopath' shabd yahan 'gopta' se nishpann mana gaya hai. atharvangiraso ki prasiddhi ygy ke gopta (rakshak) roop men hai- 'atharvangiraso hi goptar:'.[3] 'guph' dhatu men 'ath' ke yog se 'gopath' shabd vyutpann ho jata hai. inhin gopathon se sambaddh raha hai yah brahmanagranth.
  • shatapath brahman se gopath-brahman ne pushkal samagri grahan ki hai, isalie namakaran men bhi yahan usi parampara ka anuvartan hua. gopath-brahman ka adan

atharvavediy snhitetar

any brahman granthon ki apeksha gopath-brahman men niroopit vishay-vastu atyant vyapak hai. poorvabhag ke pratham prapathak men sarvapratham atharvaved ke anusar srishti-prakriya ka niroopan hai. tadanusar srishti ki kamana se svayambhoo brahm ka tap, jal-srishti, jal men ret:skhalan, shantajal ke samudr se bhrigu, atharva atharvan rishi, atharvaved, onkar, lok aur trayi ka avirbhav varnit hai. ashant jal ke samudr se varun, mrityu, angira, angiras rishi, angiras ved, jagath, ved, vyahritiyon, shamh, chandradi tatha ygy ki utpatti batalaee gee hai. devaygyon ke snrakshak-roop men atharvangirason tatha dakshina ka bhi yahin varnan hai. tadanantar pranavopanishad hai jisamen pushkar men brahm ke dvara brahma ki srishti, onkar-darshan tatha onkar ki matraon se atharvanik tattvon, devo, vedon, itihasadi vanamay, onkar-jap ka phal, prashnottararoop men niroopit hai. isake pashchath gayatryupanishad hai, jisamen gayatri mantr ki atyant vishad vyakhya prapt hoti hai. is prapathak ke ant men achaman-vidhi varnit hai. dvitiy prapathak ki pratham ath kandikaon men brahmachari ke mahattv aur karttavyon ka niroopan kiya gaya ha. tadanantar ygy men hota prabhriti charon ritvijon ki bhoomika ka vichar hai. vicharak kabandhi ka ullekh karate hue devayajanadi ygyiy tattvon ki vishad mimansa ki gee hai. tritiy prapathak ka vishay bhi ygy-vivechan hi hai. isamen brahma ka mahattv vishesharoop se niroopit hai. darshapoornamas, brahmody, agnihotr, agnishtom prabhriti ka vichar bade vyapak patal par kiya gaya hai. chaturth prapathak men gavamayanadi satrayagon ki mimansa ki gee hai. yahi kram pncham prapathak men bhi chalata rahata hai. isamen ygy-kram, vibhinn ritvijon ki vani adi ki prapti, angira ki utpatti, ritvijon ke krityon ki vivechana hai. ant men bahusnkhyak karikaen bhi di gee hain jinaka prayojan ygy-kram ke smaran ko sugam banana hai. uttarabhag men-

  • pratham prapathak ka arambh brahmakhy ritvikh ki prarochana se hota hai. tadanantar 12vin kandika tak darshapoornamas ka varnan hai. isake pashchath char kandikaon[7] kamyeshtiyon ka niroopan hai. tadanantar 10 kandikaon[8] agrayan, agnichayan aur chaturmasyon ka vivaran hai.
  • dvitiy prapathak ki prathamamandika men kamyeshtiyon ka ullekh hai. tatpashchath kramash: tanoonaptreshti[9], pravargyeshti[10], ygy-sharir ke bhed, doosare ke somayag ke dhvns aur somaskand-prayashchitt[11] ka varnan hai. age stomabhag[12], agnidhravibhag, pravrittahutiyon, sadasjanyakarm, prasthit grahon tatha darshapoornamas[13] ka niroopan hai.
  • tritiy prapathak ki vishavastu kramash: yah hai- vashatkar aur anuvashatkar[14], ritugrahadi[15], ekahaprat:savan[16], ekah-madhyandinasavan.[17]
  • chaturth prapathak men poorvakram ka anuvarritan karate hue ekah ke tritiy savan ka niroopan karane ke anantar shodashiyag ka vidhan hai. isi kram men pncham aur shashth prapathakon ki samagri bhi hai, jinamen atiratr[18], sautramani[19], vajapey[20], aptoryam[21], ahin aur satrayag niroopit hain.

gopath-brahman men yag-mimansa

'agnirygy trivritn saptatantumh'[22] is atharvan-shruti ka adhar lekar gopath-brahmanakar ne ygy ke 21 prabhed batalaye hain- 'saptasutya: sapt ch pakaygya havirygya: sapt tathaikavinshati:. sarve te ygya angirasoapi yanti nootana yanrishayon srijanti ye ch srashta purane॥'[23] inaka prithakh-prithakh ullekh bhi kiya gaya hai-
sayn pratarhomau sthalipako navashy y:.
balishch pitriygyshchashtaka saptam: pashu:॥ ityete pakaygya:
agnyadheyamagnihotrn paurnamasyamavasye.
naveshtishchaturmasyani pashubandhoatyagnishtom ukthy: shodashimanstat:.
vajapeyoatiratrashchaptoryamatr saptam:. ityete sutya:॥[24]

akushal ritvijon se ygy nasht ho jata hai- 'yadh vai ygye kushala ritvijo bhavantyacharitino brahmacharyamaparardhya va tadh vai ygysy virishtamityachakshate.'[25] atharvavediyon ke bina som-yagon ka sampadan nahin ho sakata- 'narte bhrigvangirovidbhy: som: patavy:. ritvij: parabhavanti, yajamano rajasapavadhyati, shrutishchapadhvastha tishthati.'[26] ygy ka svaroop, gati aur tez yadi rikh, yajushh aur sam par nirbhar hai, to maya bhrigvangirason arthath atharvaved par.[27] isi prakar rigvediy mandalon se ygy ke parthivaroop, ka, antariksharoop ka yajushh se aur samaved se dyulok ka apyayan hota hai, atharvaved se jalaroop ka. brahma atharvavediy mantron se ygy ke hanikarak tattvon ko shant karata hai- 'tadh yatheman prithivimudirna jyotisha dhoomayamanan varshn shamayati, evn brahma bhrigvangirobhirvyahritibhirygysy virishtn shamayati.[28] vibhinn indriyon ki drishti se bhi brahma ke vaishishty ka niroopan gopath-brahman men hua hai. tadanusar hota vani se, adhvaryu pran aur apan se, udgata netron se tatha brahma man se ygy ka sampadan karata hai- 'manasaiv brahma brahmatvn karoti.'.[29] 'chatvari shrringa.' prabhriti suprasiddh mantr ki ygyparak vyakhya gopathabrahmanakar ne ki hai.

'maho dev:' ki vyakhya karate hue ygy ko hi mahanh devata batalaya gaya hai.[30] ygy ke ashant ashv ko tinon ved shant nahin kar sake, tab use atharvaved se hi shant kiya ja saka.[31] brahma ki prarochana gopath men sarvavetta ke roop men ki gee hai- 'esh h vai vidvanh sarvavidh brahma yadh bhrigvangiroviditi brahmanamh'[32]. manav-sharir ke vibhinn angon se ygy ki samanata pradarshit karane ki brahman-granthon ki parampara ka anupalan gopath-brahmanakar ne bhi kiya hai. bloomaphild ka yah arop bhi sahi nahin pratit hota ki gopath-brahman ke poorvabhag men kisi ygy-kram ka palan nahin hua hai. vastav men poorvabhag ka prayojan vibhinn yagon ki samany baton, ishtiyon aur antarvihit tattvon ka upapadan hi hai, lekin jahan kram ki avashyakata anubhav huee hain, usaki or gopathabrahmanakar ne durlakshy nahin kiya hai. 'athato ygykrama:' se prarambh kar ek sampoorn kandika men agnyadhey se lekar sarvamedh tak vibhinn yagon ke kram-nirdharan ka kary usane kiya hai.[33] sahastrasnvatsarasadhy yag ka anushthan kaise diya jay, is or sabhi brahmanon ka vishesh dhyan raha he. gopath-brahman men bhi isake samadhan ki cheshta dikhalaee deti hai.[34] ygy ke dravyatmak roop ki tulana men adhyatmik roop ko variyata dete hue usake pratipadan ki parampara ka arambh-bindu yadi shatapath-brahman men hai, to usake vikas ka shikhar gopath-brahman men dikhalaee deta hai. ise n samajh pane ke karan hi pashchimi vidvanh gopath-brahman ki yag-mimansa ke prati nyay nahin kar sake hain. poorvabhag ki apeksha brahman ka uttar bhag ygyon ke vyavaharik anushthann par adhik kendrit pratitat hota hai- vaitan- shrautrasootr ke lie, isi karan usaka anugaman svabhavik aur sugam tha.

gopath-brahman men niroopit yagetar adhyatmik tattv-sampath

atharvan-parampara ka palan karate hue gopath-brahman men adhyatmik tattvon ka prachurata se niroopan hua hai. onkar, mahavyahritiyon, gayatri (savitri) mantr aur manasik snyam par is brahmanagranth men vishesh bal diya gaya hai. onkar ke sahastrasnkhyak jap se samast kamanaen poori ho jati hain-
tadetadaksharn brahmano yn kamamichchheth, triratroposhit: pranamukhon vagyato barhishyupavishy sahastrakritv avarttayeth. siddhyantyasyartha: sarvakarmani cheti brahmanamh[35]
onkar ke bina ved-mantron ka path nahin hota. vah rikh, yajushh, sam, pratyek sootragranth, brahman-granth aur shlok men anusyoot hai-
..n mamanirayitva brahmana brahm vadeyu:, yadi vadeyu: abrahm tath syath. tasmadonkar: poorvamuchyate. onkar richi rigbhavati, yajushi yaju:, samni sam, sootre sootrn, brahmane brahmanamh shloke shlok:, pranave pranav iti brahmanamh.[36]
bhoo:, bhuv: sv: in vyahritiyon ke sath gayatri ki bhi isamen vibhinn drishtiyon se vishad vivechana ki gee hai. svaroop se devon ki gayatri ki bhi isamen vibhinn drishtiyon se vishad vivechana ki gee hai. svaroop se devon ki gayatri ekakshara aur shvetavarna hai- 'gayatri vai devanamekakshara shvetavarna ch vyakhyata.[37] 'k: savita. ka savitri.[38] - (savita kaun hai aur savitri kya hai?)- is roop men prashan uthakar savitri ki bahuvidh vyakhya ki gee hai. tadanusar man savita hai aur vani savitri. doosare ullekh ke anusar agni savita hai aur prithvi savitri. isi prakar ke any anek yugmon-vayu aur antariksh, adity aur dyu, chandrama aur nakshatr, din aur ratri, grishm aur shit, megh aur varsha, vidyuth aur garjana, pran aur ann, ved aur chhand, ygy tatha dakshina-ityadi ke madhyam se savita aur savitri ka vivechan kiya gaya hai. poorvabhag ke pratham prapathak ki 31vin kandika se 38vin kandika tak maudgaly aur maitrey ke akhyan ke madhyam se, gayatryupanishad ke antargat savitri par jitani samagri milati hai, vah atyant upadey hai. vedamata gayatri ka upasak anant puny, shri evn kirti ka bhajan banata hai-
punyan ch kirti labhate surabhishch gandhanh. soapahatapapma. anantan shriyamashnute y evn ved, yashchaivn vidvanevameta vedanan matarn savitri sampadamupanishadamupaste.[39]
prajapati ka ullekh yadyapi gopathabrahman men hai, kintu brahm ka mahattv sarvopari hai. srishti usi se pradurbhoot huee. kaivaly ki avadharana ka ullekh bhi isamen hai.[40]

srishti-prakriya aur achar-darshan

srishti ka prarambh brahm ke shram aur tap se hua. bhrigu aur atharva prabhriti rishiyon ne bhi shram aur tap ka anushthan kiya. shram aur tap se hi dev-srishti aur lok-srishti sambhav huee. isi se tinon vedon aur mahavyahritiyon ka nirman hua.[41] gopath-brahman ke anusar man ka bahut mahattv hai. adami man se jo sochata hai, vahi hota hai- 's manasa dhyayedh, yadh van ahn kin ch manasa dhyasyami tathaiv tadh bhavishyati. taddh sm tathaiv bhavati'.[42] brahmanakar ne adhe-adhoorepan se kary karane ka bhi nishedh kiya hai. dvitiy prapathak men brahmachari ke karttavyon ka vistar se nirooparan hai. aindrik ragon aur akarshanon se use bachana chahie. stri-sampark, doosaron ko kasht pahunchane, oonche asan par baithane se use bachana chahie. snrakshit dharm hi usaki raksha karata hai- 'dharmon hainn gupto gopayati'[43] sambhavat: yahi gopath-brahmanokt sookti laukik snskrit men 'dharmo rakshati rakshit:' men parinat ho gee. ygy-diksha ke prakaran men anek naitik niyamon ka ullekh hai. shreshth buddhi se yukt vyakti ko hi 'dikshit' mana gaya hai-'shreshthan dhiyn kshiyatiti. tn va etn dhikshitn santn dikshit ityachakshate parokshen.'[44] achar ki drishti se gopath-brahman ka star atyant uchch aur udatt hai.

nirvachan-prakriya

any brahmanon ki tarah gopath men bhi anek rochak nirvachan prapt hote hain. udaharan ke lie 'dhara' shabd dharan karane se janm dene ke karan 'jaya' , 'varan', se varun, 'muchchu se mrityu, prajapalan ke karan prajapati, bharan karane ke karan bhrigu, ath aur arvakh ke yog se atharva ang aur ras ke yog se angaras ya angiras, ki nirukti niroopit hain. ras aur rath ka samikaran bhi vilakshan pratit hota hai- 'tn va evn rasn santn rath ityachakshate parokshen'. [45]

gopath-brahman ki any visheshataen

  • atharvaved aur usake bhrigu, angira, atharva prabhriti rishiyon ke avirbhav par gopath se vishisht prakash padata hai.
  • rigved men varun akash ke devata hain, lekin dhire-dhire ve jal se kaise sambandh ho gaye, isaka gyan gopath-brahman se hota hai.[46]
  • parinishthit vedon ke sath hi sarpaved, pishachaved, asuraved, itihasaved aur puran vedon ka ullekh panch itar vedon ke roop men kiya gaya hai.[47]
  • brahma ke 48 hazar varshon tak, salil-prishth par shiv ke tapasya karane ka ullekh hai.[48]
  • doshapati, jisaki manyata bauddhakalikaroop men hai, ki isamen charcha hai.[49]
  • vyakaran ki us shabdavali, jisaka vikas sootr-kal men hua, ka yahan ullekh hai. dhatu, pratipadik, vibhakti, pratyay, vikar, vikari, sthananupradan adi aise hi kuchh shabd hain.[50] avyay ki vah paribhasha bhi prapt hoti hai, jo adyavadhi prachalit hai-

sadrishn trishu lingeshu sarvasu ch vibhaktishu. vachaneshu ch sarveshu yatr vyeti tadavyayamh.

  • rishiyon men vasishth, vishvamitr, jamadagni, gautam, bharadvaj, gungu, agasty, kashyap prabhriti ke, acharyon ke ashramon ke roop men vipasha nadi, vasishth shila, prabhav, gunguvas, agasthyatirth, kashyapatung ityadi bhaugolik mahattv ke sthanon ka ullekh hai.[51]
  • janapadon men kuru-panchal, ang, magadh, kashi, shalv, matsy, savash, ushinar aur vats ke nam diye gaye hain.[52]
  • rajaon men parikshitaputr janamejay tatha sarvabhaum raja yauvanashv mandhata ke namon ka ullekh hai.[53]
  • svaha ki utpatti ka varnan karate hue gopath-brahman ne usako lamagayanon ki sagotriy batalaya.[54] ye lamagayan anyatr samaved ki shakhaon ke prasng men ullikhit hain.

nishkarsh yah ki apani anek vilakshanataon ke karan gopath-brahman samast brahmanagranthon ke madhy vishesh mahattv ka aspad hai.

adyavadhi 'gopath-brahman' ke nimnalikhit mool, anoodit aur sampadit snskaran upalabdh hain-

  • rajendralal mitr tatha harachandr vidyabhooshan ke dvara snpadit tatha sanh 1872 ee. men, kalakatta se prakashit snskaran.
  • jivanand vidyasagar ke dvara sanh 1891 ee. men kalakatta se hi prakashit snskaran.
  • dyook gastra (Dieuke Gaastre) ke dvara susampadit snskaran, laiden se 1919 ee. men prakashit. 1972 ee. men, indolaaujikal buk haus ke dvara photo-prati ke roop men isi ka punarmudran.
  • kshemakaranadasatrivedi ke dvara 1924 ee. men hindi anuvad sahit prakashit snskaran. isi ka prgya devi ke dvara pun: sampadit roop men 1977 ee. men prakashan hua hai.
  • daau. vijayapal vidyavaridhi ke dvara sampadit tatha sanh 1980 men ramalal kapoor trast, sonipat (hariyana) se mudrit-vitarit snskaran. ni:sandeh uparyukt sabhi snskaranon men yah sarvashreshth hai. prastut vivaran men isi ke sandarbh diye gaye hain.
