'to main bhi nahin jata.' 'bhookhon mar jaoge.' 'to kya tum jite rahoge ?' 'mera kaun baitha hai, jo royega ?' 'achchha, to chalo chalen. magar main chhipa rahoonga, agar kisi ne mera nam lekar n pukara; to main laut aoonga. yah samajh lo.' donon vahan se nikale aur akar maheshanath ke dvar par andhere men dabakakar khade ho gaye; magar tami ko sabr kahan ? vah dhire se andar ghus gaya. dekha, maheshanath aur suresh thali par baith gaye hain. barothe men dhire se baith gaya, magar dar raha tha ki koee danda n mar de. naukar men batachit ho rahi thi. ek ne kaha, ‘aj mngalava nahin dikhayi deta. malakin ne danta tha, isase bhaga hai sait.‘ doosare ne javab diya, ‘achchha hua, nikal diya gaya. sabere-sabere bhngi ka munh dekhana padata tha. mngal aur andhere men khisak gaya. asha gahare jal men doob gayi. maheshanath thali se uth gaye. naukar hath dhula raha hai. ab huqqa piyenge aur soyenge. suresh apani man ke pas baitha koee kaha,ni sunata-sunata so jayaga ! garib mngal ki kise chinta hai ? itani der ho gayi, kisi ne bhool se bhi n pukara. kuchh der tak vah nirash-sa vahan khada raha, phir ek lambi sans khinchakar jana hi chahata tha ki kahar pattal men thali ka joothan le jata najar aya. mngal andhere se nikalakar prakash men a gaya. ab man ko kaise roke ? kahar ne kaha, ‘are, too yahan tha ? hamane samajha ki kahin chala gaya. le, kha le; main phenkane le ja raha tha.‘ mngal ne dinata se kaha, ‘main to badi der se yahan khada tha.‘ 'to bola, kyon nahin ?' 'mare dar ke.'
